Course Curriculum Overview
The Department of psychology at Central University of Karnataka is one of the best departments in the whole university. The faculty mainly comprises highly educated professionals holding doctorates in various fields of psychology. The faculty is well-versed in English and some are even familiar with Hindi and other vernacular languages. The course syllabus comprises of basic introduction to psychology in the first semester, and levelling up as the semester progress. The faculty is helpful and friendly. They provide us with a warm environment and the teaching styles are easy to grasp. If by chance something isn't clear, the faculties would repeat it as many times as they want.
Internships Opportunities
The internship opportunities are given as a part of the master's program. The students are sent to hospitals and clinics from 2nd year onwards for regular fieldwork and observation. The internships are often unpaid and mostly for observational and learning purposes, some places do offer a stipend based on work performance.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee structure is comparatively cheaper as compared to private institutions. The fee is charged for tuition separately, the other half goes for hostel accommodation and mess fee. For students facing a financial problem, fees for the first semester can be paid later during the third semester. On-campus jobs only include contractual faculty but part-time jobs can be sought outside of the campus
Campus Life
The social life on campus is very lively. Almost every other week, there are fests and programmes organised by various departments. The campus has a shopping complex that comprises a dairy, bakery and barber Shop. Right outside the campus, there are multiple grocery stores and cafes to enjoy the evening. The prices are reasonable and the food is of good quality and taste. An annual University-wide fest called 'Ankur' is organised every year around April and comprises intra-department sports, cultural and literary competitions. The library is fully equipped with course books and other books for fun reads. It also comprises a digital book locater. Every classroom has a smart board, projector and AC.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel accommodation includes bunk beds and closed cupboards only. Each room is shared by a maximum of 6 people. The hostel has a caretaker who attends to all problems. Washroom comprises western and Indian toilets and the bathroom has both taps and shower heads. Buckets and mattresses need to be either bought from home or right outside the campus. The mess provides food three times a day. The food quality is decent but a good value for the fee taken. Breakfast is served along with banana/eggs/ sprouts, lunch has salad along with food and dinner is accompanied by papad. The registration for hostel is after getting admitted to the course. Taking a PG is not recommended since the nearest decent accommodation is at least 45 mins away and the local bus would be required for transportation.
Admission
The admission process to this course is done through the CUET exam. The mandatory subject for eligibility was the General test. It was mandatory to pick a language subject along with a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 6 core subjects in CUET. The cut-off of the university came approximately 2 months after the exam. The cut-off was based on the marks obtained in the general test. Cut-off for reserved categories is usually 10-20 marks lower than that of general. 3 cut-off lists were released, after which admissions were done via open councelling.
