Course Curriculum Overview
Since I'm pursuing the Chartered Accountancy course so Bcom Hons fits perfectly for me. The faculty: student ratio seems a little low as the college has a huge student ratio but the faculty seems a little less according to the population. The faculty is well qualified having the required knowledge and degree, some of them being the alumni of this very college, and the teaching method is quite forward too. The term exams are timed perfectly in comparison to syllabus completion. The level of examination is moderate to high, so it gets a little difficult to pass certain papers.
Internships Opportunities
The placement cell is quite active and a huge number of companies provide internship opportunities like ITC, GT, Desai and Group, etc. The stipend is approximately INR.18000-20000 which is not bad for a college internship.
Placement Experience
The students become eligible for campus placements from the fifth semester. A huge number of companies visit the college including the big four. The highest package last year was INR.22 lakhs per annum and the average package is INR. 6-7 lakhs per annum. About 50-60% of the students get placed. I will continue with my professional course.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees are a little too high for the evening batch as compared to the morning one, the cost to study is approximately INR 1.5 lakhs which is too much for just a Bcom Hons degree. And also there is a certain degree of hike in the fees every semester which is hard to afford. The college does provide certain scholarship opportunities to economically backward sections.
Campus Life
The annual fest is Xavotsav which usually happens in the month of January-February, there is also a fest named Goonj which comprises Dancing and Singing battles which usually happen in the month of October. There is a huge library comprising a huge variety of books and journals. The classrooms are well furnished comprising Projectors and Air conditioners in some classes. There is an Annual Sports Event, other than that other clubs or societies have their events going on throughout the year.
Admission
There is no entrance exam for Bcom Hons in St. Xavier's College, Kolkata, admission is done on the basis of merit list. The main eligibility is to have passed the 12th Standard (Senior Secondary) and the obtained percentage should fall in the merit list. The application form can be found on the college website, a student can fill in the form from there, the application fee for Bcom Hons is INR.500, and the application dates usually come 1 month after the declaration of the results of the 12th board examination, usually in the month of June. The admission process for the Bcom Hons course is quite hassle-free, so I do not see the need for any improvement.
Other Applied Colleges
Delhi University - [DU] | Bachelor of Commerce [B.Com] {Hons.}
I didn't get in the merit list
