Course Curriculum Overview
Pharm.D, which stands for Doctor of Pharmacy, is a professional doctoral degree program in the field of pharmacy. It is a postgraduate degree that prepares students to become licensed pharmacists and healthcare professionals specializing in medication therapy management. The Pharm.D course is designed to provide extensive education and training in pharmacy practice, clinical sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, and patient care. I chose Pharm.D course because being in the clinical field (research and patient-oriented) has always been my dream. The faculty in St. Peter's are well experienced (and of Ph.D. qualification) and always provide the best to the students, help in research, presentations, etc. There is a regular review for the faculties, by taking the feedback from the students. The college not only provides academic skills but also helps in improving presentation, and communication skills by conducting poster presentations, quiz competitions, scientific sessions, webinars, etc.
Internships Opportunities
Internship in Rohini super-specialty hospital (300 beded).Pharm.D. students cycle across numerous departments throughout their internship, providing them with a thorough understanding of hospital pharmacy practice. They may spend some time in the main pharmacy, where they gain knowledge of inventory control, drug distribution, and using technology to stop pharmaceutical errors. Interns closely collaborate with chemists to examine and validate prescription orders while they are working in the inpatient pharmacy. This helps to ensure that hospitalized patients receive the proper dosage and are protected from drug interactions. It's essential for building a solid basis in clinical pharmacy practice to get hands-on experience using medications. Students gain critical clinical and soft skills through practical experiences in several pharmacy departments. They are exposed to various patient demographics and specialties, which develops empathy and helps them narrow down their potential future.
Placement Experience
Placements are from global data companies (icon, omega, etc). More than 95% of students get placements and the package is around 3,00,000 - 4,00,000 per annum. There is no semester in Pharm.D, the final-year students (6th year) are eligible for the placements.
Fees and Financial Aid
The course fee is around 1,30,000 per annum. The placements in St. Peter's are very good with a minimum package of 3,00,000- 4,00,000 per annum. As for the scholarship, I got a merit scholarship via the eamcet counseling (based on my rank).
Campus Life
The infrastructure is very good, classrooms are also spacious. Every month there are some events both academic and cultural. Every year there's a sports week "Spardha", and a cultural day "Vastra", a traditional day, etc. There is a student forum (IPA-SF) that conduct events like World TB Day wherein we've participated in the quiz, medical camps, e-poster competition on world rare disease day, elocution, quiz, debate, poster presentation for pharmacy and pharmacovigilance week, etc which helps to keep ourselves updated in the clinical field. As for the library, it is very spacious and has adequate books and journals with a good impact factor.
Admission
Eamcet (BiPC) is the entrance exam through which one can apply to the course (PharmD). There are 2 web counseling through which one can opt for the colleges for their choice, and based on the rank you get admission to the respective college. The admission process in St. Peter's is very smooth, if you have any questions or doubts can contact the college administration they will help you in the process. I personally suggest that, prior to the admission, go visit the college because I did the same before my admission. It helped me make the decision. The staff helped me to look around the college and also explained about the course, career opportunities, placements, events, and sessions they conduct to develop our knowledge in the clinical field. The admission process also went very smoothly with the help of the administration department.
