Course Curriculum Overview
I chose to study History because I found the subject incredibly fun, moreover, it answers a lot of questions that we face on a daily basis today. Our Department had an average of around 60 students per batch in the Undergraduate and Masters classes while the number of M.Phil and Ph.D. Scholars depended on the availability of vacant seats. The teaching staff consists of 15 teachers in our department with at least 5 full-time professors and the rest assistant professors. Most of the faculty members are either Ivy League or JNU or Oxbridge educated, with professors from Presidency and other central universities as well.
Fees and Financial Aid
This University is a state-funded government university so the education fees are highly subsidized to around Rs. 75 per month for Arts Faculty and a little higher for Engineering faculty. There are scholarships available for the economically weaker section for which one needs to get in touch with University authorities.
Campus Life
Jadavpur University has a huge campus. There is an annual fest called Sanskriti which takes place in 3 segments, each hosted by one of the three faculties, Arts, Science, and Humanities. The campus engages the students to think freely and encourages students to question everything from academics to philosophies to politics and society. Jadavpur University has 22 Departmental Libraries and 1 Central Library which is one of the best-stocked libraries in the country. Jadavpur also has various extremely active sports teams like Cricket, Football, Hockey, Rock Climbing, etc, with Numerous clubs to choose from
Admission
The College application process was fairly simple and done online. There was no entrance exam for my particular department, and admission was done based on marks, with different weightage given to different boards. The ones who qualified for the cut-off were called for admission. However, there was a second round of admission to fill the vacant seats among the waitlisted candidates. The application form is on the Jadavpur University website itself, with a very minimum application fee. The dates for admission are decided from year to year based on the dates of board exam results.
