- A strict attendance policy (75% policy, failing which one grade down).
- The way some compulsory courses (like intro to engineering) were structured.
- Grading dependent solely on professors and can be harsh in some cases.
Course Curriculum Overview
The first-year curriculum is common for all students and teaches basic engineering subjects. Grading is completely dependent on the professor taking the course. Overall courses and faculty are quite good. The subjects from the second year onwards deal with the core subjects of your branch but you have to complete some required humanities courses and electives.
Internships Opportunities
Corporate internships are availed by students typically in the 3rd year through the Office of Career Services. Many decent companies visit with a great stipend. In 2nd year, some students look for projects and research interns.
Placement Experience
Campus placements start in the 7th semester and are kept in sync with the Office of Career Services (OCS), IITD. About 70% get placed and others go for fields like entrepreneurship, a master's degree, UPSC, etc.
Fees and Financial Aid
Scholarships are easily available and based on merit cum need. They typically have a threshold income criteria of 9lpa. Tuition fees are also waived to some extent for students below a certain income range (typically 4-5 lpa). The tuition fees are around 1-1.5lpa per semester.
Campus Life
Life in IIT is what you make it to be. There are opportunities for anything you want to get into. There is the main cultural fest, Rendezvous, technical fest, Tryst, and also fests specific to some clubs like Kaizen (NSS), Literati (Board for Student Publications), etc. There are also facilities for practicing and availing training in case you're interested in a particular sport. Overall social life is great and there are all sorts of cultural and tech clubs to get into, if you manage your time well.
Hostel Facilities
Each room is equipped with a bed, study table, almirah, and chair and is available in double or triple sharing. Mess serves meals 4 times a day including snacks in the evening and the quality of food is decent. You can apply for a hostel during your registration and counseling period.
Admission
The admission process was through two standard entrance exams: JEE Mains and JEE Advanced. JEE Mains basically acts as a shortlist for who can appear for the advanced exam. The syllabus comprises of all topics taught in Physics, Chemistry, and Maths in 11th and 12th grade. Admissions through JOSAA counseling in which you fill in your preferences and get courses based on your rank in the Advanced exam.
