Remarks
It's a great college to be in and the best part I'd say is the fact that academics is not the only factor in my college life. All the teams and the college fests are run by the student teams which result in improving our people skills and management skill
Entrance Preview
IIT JEE - 2014 I had got an AIR of 1000 and I chose IIT-M primarily because it is one of the top IITs and also the proximity of the college to home.
Course Curriculum Overview
Course curriculum is very good , My department is essentially the blend of ECE and EEE and we are allowed to choose electives from either of the streams from our 3rd year. It is very flexible and is very conducive for learning as we can opt for a fixed number of courses from other departments too.
Internships Opportunities
I haven't attended an internship yet as I'm only in my 2nd year. But, generally, Many good companies come with the higher end being an internship for 2 months with Rs. 60000 to Rs. 75000 per month.
Placement Experience
I do not have the placement related data yet. But a lot of core companies apart from coding or finance/Analytics companies come here for placements every year. Generally, almost 90% of EE students get placed.
College Events
There is a technical fest (Shaastra) and a cultural fest (Saarang). Both of these are the second biggest festivals organised by students, in India. Saarang has a huge footfall too. Students from many other colleges and from the neighbouring states attend too. They're fun filled and informative (lecture series, workshops, etc.) Apart from these, every department has their individual tech fests which are attended by IITM and other college students.
Fee Structure And Facilities
I personally feel that the fee structure is pretty feasible. The below is the fee structure for a GENERAL category student. Per semester:Tuition fee is around Rs. 40000 Hostel and mess fee is around Rs. 20000Miscellaneous - Rs. 5000For a SC/ST category student, the tuition fee is waived.
Fees and Financial Aid
There's scholarship for financially backward students and also for SC/ST students. There are scholarships for female students who excel academically - I do not know the details properly. But the institute will intimate the students of all the details on a regular basis, through institute mail.
Campus Life
Gender ratios is pretty bad - almost 1 girl for every 8 boys.Hostel parties are very regular and are fun. Each semester budget is allotted for such celebrations.Workshops and cultural societies - Extracurricular activities are encouraged in college. There are many clubs that are headed by students that conduct frequent events that cater to the needs of diverse set of people. There are regular competitions and inter hostel rivalry for the year cup too. Tolerance - We're a very diverse student body with students from all over India and a few foreign exchange students too. It's an extremely peaceful atmosphere and there is no discrimination whatsoever.
Hostel Facilities
There are almost 18 hostels in my institute. Every student will be allotted hostel rooms.Every first year UG student will have to room with 1 or 2 other students. In the subsequent years, they'll mostly be in single rooms. The room conditions and hostels
Alumni/Alumna
Interaction with seniors is brilliant. Most of my closest friends happen to be my seniors. They guide us in our fields of interest and help us get accustomed to college in the initial days. There is an International & Alumni Relations team that takes care of alumni network. Many alumni are actively involved in the college be it through monetary contributions or helping other students of IIT M or alumni in other cities or giving lectures.
Exam Structure
Exams could be of two patters - 2/4 quizzes and 1 endsem or 1 midsem and 1 endsem.Labs generally have only one endsem exam.I wouldn't call the curriculum hectic, but then again, it depends on the student and their time management. But the curriculum in II
Faculty
The faculty are in general very helpful when it comes to helping interested students pursue their field of interests. Some professors are extremely intelligent, which is apparent during their lectures. Getting to work under professors is also extremely ed
