My College Review

The college had a bad reputation when I got admission due to some level of corruption in the University. However, I thought this would have been sorted out as of now.

I have given the PET C.G. entrance examination to get admission in the engineering institutes in C.G. I opted for this college because of its good infrastructure and it was near one of my relative's home.

The course curriculum was good and to the point. Although the time for giving the first semester exam was very small and I had to give the examination just after getting the examination within 3-4 months of time. I must say the University has to change it curriculum so that the fresher students will get some time for the first semester exams. After that the other semester happened at enough gap and the faculty at the University was quite helping and friendly in nature.

I am not sure about the internship and stipend provided by the college. Internship is generally provided to the students who pursue Masters degree, but my college didn't have a masters degree in engineering when I was pursuing my college degree.

The college has limited placements and job opportunities. There were very few campuses organized by the University and the job profile of these campuses was also not at par with the aspirations of engineering students. The campuses were only for the students who were all clear, i.e. who have passed all their papers without a back. However, this was not possible for an average student who has only 2-3 months of preparation time for the first and second semester exams.

My college would celebrate the annual function with lots of boisterous events and every student would participate in some extracurricular activities. The college especially celebrates the Guru Ghasidas birthday because it is named after this great saint. Many sports activities would also happen in our college.

The fee structure is affordable for the average middle class family earners in India. I don't know if the fees has been increased today, but it was reasonable during my time. The college administration would not emphasize too much on giving the fees in time and would provide enough time to gather the fees. Although I would say that the fees was certainly higher compared to the facilities because some of the buildings were still in construction period when I got admission.

I didn't avail for any load or scholarship because I belong to a middle class earning family of general caste. However, there was scholarship facility for the students of OBC/SC/ST category. They would only have to pay some fees at the time of admission which was refunded back after the approval of scholarship.

There were enough females in my batch. The ratio of gender was enough as usually found in most of the engineering institutions in India. The workshops at the college premises were well maintained and have enough equipment for learning. I have never seen any issue of gender disparity within my class and institution and the students would talk with each other frankly. Although there were some issues of caste because the general category students would have to pay full fees, but another category would get full exemption of fees.

The hostel and mess facilities were not at par with the standards of a national University. The mess facility was leased to a private company at my time and the students of the hostel would often seen fighting with the mess workers over the quality of food and limited menu.

The senior students were also well mannered and friendly with the juniors. Although I have had to face some consequences of ragging during my first few months of admission, but then the seniors really helped me in many ways.

If the first and second semester timings are leaved, then I can say the other semester happened with a good gap of time and students got enough time for preparation. The structure of exams were also not of much higher difficulty level and an average student would easily pass those exams. The lab timings were flexible and the students would get enough time for giving presentations in the lab. The overall environment of lab and exam halls were friendly.

I joined the counselling and got admission after following the formalities of admission. I have selected my branch and college through online counselling and then submitted my admission fees at the college campus for the final admission. Then, I got the final admission after showing my mark sheets at the main office of the college campus.

The faculty at the college was professional and experienced. If some of the visiting faculties who work on per lecture basis is not considered, then I will say that the college had an overall good faculty that provides detailed lectures to the students.
