Likes
- I really liked that the campus is green and this makes it refreshing. There is a garden area too.
- The college timings are also flexible as all lectures start from 10:30 am and end at 5:30 pm which makes it comfortable for both night owls and early birds.
- I really like the faculty and think that if a student attends majority of the lectures, they can easily score good in the exams.
Dislikes
- I do not like that the infrastructure has become very old and it neds to be updated
- I do not like that the laboratories are not that good as they use old technologies like in programming, they use Turbo C for coding in C language which is very old software.
- I do not like that the college does not provide transportation facility as many students come from very far away and they need to travel in government buses and sometimes they even have to change multiple buses to reach college which becomes tiring
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is based on the curriculum set by the Gujarat Techonogical University. Overall, the curriculum is very flexible for the students and various co-curricular activites also take place in the college. The faculy members are very helpful too. I chose the Information Technology branch because of its expected growth in the future and my interest in coding. There are 2 major exams in each semester: Mid-terms and Final University Exam. The mid terms are of 30 marks whereas the final exams are of 70 marks each.
Fees and Financial Aid
The total fee for each year is 1500 rupees. There are various scholarships allowed for students to apply. There is a very famous scholorship called MYSY which is provided to all the students having more than 80 percentile in their 12th boards as science percentile.
Campus Life
The life at Campus of VGEC is very refreshing after tiring lectures. There is a huge library near the M block on the campus. There is also a student section where students from all the branches meet up to spend some time during their free time and proxy lectures playing indoor games. There is also a volleyball court and basketball court which can be accessed using the student id. The classrooms have a blackboard and a whiteboard. There are plenty of windows which allow sufficient sunlight and fresh air to enter the class and there are multiple fans present. There are various technical and non-technical clubs present for students to explore and build their personalities.
Admission
The admission process in Vishwakarma Government Engineering College , Ahmedabad is mainly conducted on the basis of 2 exams i.e. 12th Board exams and GUJCET (Gujarat Common Entrance Exam). The admission is considered on the basis of marks scored at a ratio of 50% each of these exams. Then, the applicant needs to apply in ACPC (Admission Committee for Professional Courses) and after some time a all state merit rank is generated of the student. The student needs to fill in his/her choice of college / university in the ACPC website. On the basis of this merit rank, a cutoff list is generated for each college. If a student falls under the cutoff of any college (which was filled by the student in choice filling), the student needs to pay a token fee (20,000 rupees for self financed colleges and 1500 rupees for government colleges) to guareentee their admission.
