Remarks
Managing the alumni network needs a lot of improvement, trying to get more 'Core' companies for placement, Getting the labs to be as good as those at the IIT's.
Entrance Preview
I did not give any competitive exam i enrolled in 2004, and at time college admissions for Gujarati students used to happen on the basis of marks in 12th standard (science stream) i was basically from Surat only, and though I was getting admissions in other NIT's I chose SVNIT Surat as it was a reputed college and was in my hometown.
Course Curriculum Overview
First year was common for all students, wherein basics of various engineering disciplines were taught from 2nd year onwards I chose electronics engineering as my specialization, with major focus on digital engineering and electronic communication.
Internships Opportunities
I did not partake in any internship during my college days as it was not mandatory back then what I understand from people today is that students from SVNIT Surat get good internship offers and are paid not less than Rs. 10K as month for that.
Placement Experience
SVNIT Surat has good placements however, a large portion of it was absorbed by the IT Companies like TCS, Infy, Wipro, etc core companies in the non-IT domains were few and far between (the big ones) some of them being Cummins, Tata Motors, Maruti, etc.
College Events
Technical - Mind, Bend:Mind, Bend is a pretty well managed and attended technical fest that attracts students from all around India and even outside the quality papers projects presented is extremely high cultural sparsh is the main cultural event at SVNIT Surat, though other smaller events happen as well.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fees were very moderate and highly subsidized during my time. i paid Rs. 20K as my fees for my entire engineering course in SVNIT Surat, which is like almost laughable to today's crowd for all I know, the fee has been increased to 1.7 Lakhs for current admissions.
Fees and Financial Aid
No such facility was available, as far as I know, during my time again, not sure if anything pertaining to this is available currently probably something for the economically backward students.
Campus Life
Campus life is pretty happening at SVNIT Surat with a 350 acre campus and all sports facilities available, students have all the opportunities of de-stressing themselves after a hard days work debate culture is very strong at NIT Surat.
Hostel Facilities
Students used to share rooms during the 1st and 2nd year, while single rooms were allotted to 3rd and 4th year students mess food was just okay at best however, hostel facilities are much better now, with new hostels constructed for both boys and girls.
Alumni/Alumna
NIT Surat alumni is very strong and many of them are at very senior and respected positions is renowned companies the alumni association, however, can be a little better at maintaining and developing the network.
Exam Structure
SVNIT Surat normally doesn't pressurize the students too much, and the exams, whether written or practical were more of an understanding exercise than a mental torture. Professors are pretty participative during the labs tests, and though some protocols a
Faculty
Faculty was good, with an eclectic mix of professors from various states, some permanent and some visiting faculty this gave us a chance to understand the practical side of things as well. Overall, SVNIT might not have the best of the breed, but surely th
