Course Curriculum Overview
I chose Mechanical Engineering as my course because I dreamed of designing cars even after securing a very good rank(4320). The student intake of Manipal is not very much it is equivalent to a government college with a total of 1800 students taken in the first year this year. My branch has a total of 200 students and 90 faculty members so the faculty: student ratio is also very good. Most of the faculty is very qualified with a lot of iitians and PhDs. Our midterms were at the end of September and endterms start from the 29th of November.
Internships Opportunities
MIT Manipal Provides several internship opportunities by big companies like Microsoft, Flipkart, and amazon. These companies take students as interns and later based on their performance keep them as full-timers. the stipend these big companies provide is around 40000 - 70000
Placement Experience
Students become eligible for campus placements in the last semester i.e. the 8th semester. The highest package for my branch this year was 20 lakhs and the average package is around 10 lakhs. This year the percentage of students who got placed was 92.9%. I plan on going for higher education preferably from somewhere abroad(maybe Germany).
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees are a little high as MIT is a private university with tuition and hostel fees of a year going up to 4lakhs but there are scholarships available for bright students like those who secured a rank between 100-5000 get 20% concession in tuition fees and those with under 100 rank get 100% concession in tuition fees.
Campus Life
The campus life of MIT is one of the best with students coming in from each and every part of the country. There are a lot of interesting clubs and student projects present here at MIT. I myself am in a student project called Team Manipal Racing which makes a new car every year out of scratch and enters competitions in different parts of India and also the US. We have Techtatva as our tech fest which was conducted in the month of October and Revels which is conducted at the end of the semester i.e. March. We have a huge library which has all the books required for our studies. A lot of sports & extracurricular activities are there in our college including basketball, football, cricket, NCC, NSS, etc.
Hostel Facilities
Basic furniture and amenities such as an almirah, study table, chair, bucket, mug, umbrella, etc were given at the begining which was very helpful. The mess is just beside our hostel so there is no headache of walking faraway to eat. The quality of food is good even though the menu is repititive every week but the food quality is definitely above average. The registration process included booking a room on an online portal in any one of the hostel provided by the college, it provided an option of 6-7 hostels for boys.
Admission
The Manipal Entrance test was divided into two attempts similar to JEE with both the attempts being equally hard thus giving low cutoffs for branches like Cse. The application process was smooth with the faculty of Manipal assisting at every step with the help of helpline numbers available on the website. The main eligibility of the college is to secure 50% aggregate in 12th in all the subjects and 60% in PCM for btech courses. The Application fee was around 600 per attempt. One thing I liked very much about Manipal is that there are no reservations thus giving equal opportunities for every student, unlike JEE.
Other Applied Colleges
BITS Pilani (Pilani Campus) | Bachelor of Engineering [BE] {Hons.} (Mechanical Engineering)
Gave the entrance test but was not getting my desired branch i.e. Mechanical Engineering for the marks that I had.
