Course Curriculum Overview
Chose MBBS so I can set up practice as an esteemed doctor. Faculty: student ratio is optimal, with each department having upwards of 8-10 teaching staff assisted by postgraduates and technicians. Teaching is on par with nearly every other college in Andhra Pradesh - self-study has generally proven to be more effective with the classes to help boost our understanding.
Internships Opportunities
All graduates are required to enter a year-long internship at the Government General Hospital to be eligible for a postgraduate course application. The internship comes with a stipend of around 24,000/month for 12-16 months.
Fees and Financial Aid
Fees are nominal seeing as GMC is a government institution. Accessible to all economic classes and also provides various programs to supplement student finances through scholarships. I personally have been deemed ineligible for scholarships but many of my peers have been offered stipends and scholarships as financial support.
Campus Life
Social life at GMC falls short compared to other colleges. Events are sparse but there has been a steady improvement in the way the college handles the social life of students. The number of events being organised is steadily increasing year by year with varying dates. An all-accessible library with a wide collection of books is also available at the campus. Clubs are not widespread, only a few clubs exist for interested students with limited membership.
Hostel Facilities
Rooms are designed with a capacity of two in mind. The current building is antiquated but construction for a new block has been underway. Meals are of substandard quality, barely acceptable but affordable so usually reasonable. All candidates studying at the college are eligible for vacancies at the hostel with an additional fee of 40,000 for the duration of the entire course.
Admission
Eligibility acquired through NEET qualification. The cutoff for unreserved candidates was around 580-590. Upon qualification, had to apply through the official government NTA portal for counselling. National counselling fees were around 10k with state counseling fees around 3k. Dates were usually announced 2-4 weeks after the results.
