My Overall Experience with college is Fairly good, It is one of the best place to pursue higher education for the student from economically weaker backgrounds and if you want to make the career in teaching or Government jobs.
Entrance Preview
Banaras Hindu University,conducts UET (Undergraduate Entrance Test) every year for addmission to its various undergraduate courses separately. For the admission to B.com(Hons.) and B.com(Hons.)with Financial marketing management, The faculty of commerce, BHU receives registration of about 40,000 candidates out of which 300 seats are available for the admission to courses. UET for commerce has syllabus similar to std. 11-12 CBSE curriculum along with General awareness and Current affairs. The Question paper carries total marks of 450, there is negative marking scheme. The cutoff for admission ranges from 220-225 marks, In which I scored 240 marks. The cutoff marks differ on the basis of categories and quotas, as there is seat reservation as per the provisions of the central government. The basic idea of me joining this particular college is because it is one of the most reputed and old educational faculty in India. Banaras Hindu University is a Central University, established by an act of Parliament which is ranked 2nd among top 10 universities of India as per rankings of Ministry of HRD.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is very dynamic and provides the in-depth knowledge of the subject. The college provides Degree in Graduate, Post-graduate and also PhD. The topics of study are vast and include generally all the fields of commerce, the curriculum is an appropriate mix of quantity and quality. The course never gets obsolete and keep changing with the change in the environment where it functions. With the research motive it is a fairly good curriculum, and the university also has a good NET JRF culture. The course of study also covers 70-80? of CA IPCC syllabus and is also good for Banking and competitive job preparation.
Internships Opportunities
Yes, our College does provide Internships. The professors choose few students as their interns to assist their Research works and provide them with the analysis of the topics. Working as an intern for research work provides a fair understanding of the topic. The general stipend ranges from 2000-3000 per research paper.
Placement Experience
The placement opportunities after this B.com(Hons.) course is satisfactory. Out of the total students of 300, nearly 30 -40 gets placed. Generally, Financing, Banking, and commercial companies visit the campus for offering clerical jobs. Placements are made on the basis of Written Exams, Group discussion, and interview. Companies such as Axis bank, Bazaz Allianz etc visits and provides the minimum salary of INR 25K per month.
College Events
Every year BHU witnesses an Inter-faculty youth Festival 'Spandan' in which every department of university takes part, it is the mega event of BHU. The second important event is KASHIYATRA Which is a fest organised by IIT BHU but every department including Faculty of commerce takes part in it. Then there is cultural and management event TECHNEX in which every department of BHU takes part. Apart from this, there is the continuous organisation of events at college and department levels which gives lots of exposure to one.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The Course fee of the college is very nominal. The annual Tuition fee is INR 3000/p.a and semester fee is INR 425 per semester. Since the university is Central university the Education is provided at the subsidised rate in the college. This annual fee is inclusive of all the charges of Education and no extra charge for anything is asked, this also includes transportation fee which the university provides to its students.
Fees and Financial Aid
Since the college fees itself is nominal and subsidised by Central Government there is no separate need for Loans or Scholarship.
Campus Life
The University campus is spread across 3000 acres and is the largest residential campus in Asia. The campus life is really enjoying, the campus is full of greeneries and there is also another source of leisure and time pass such as has lots of awesome food canteens, parks, museum and Temple. The Gender ratio is fairly good, there is a good coordination among girls and boys. There numerous departments and faculties in universities which regularly conducts workshops and seminars at college levels. Student union ABVP is active in the campus. Students from all over India and even from Foreign studies here irrespective of their caste, race, religion etc. There is also some political activities remains active in campus, students are politically influenced to a extent and there is frequent protests and such activities in campus.
Hostel Facilities
The seats in the University hostel is limited and are allocated to few candidates only based on their merit and score. The university hostel provides food and lodging in subsidised rate which is INR 2500 pm for food and INR 4000/year only for lodging facility. The hostel rooms are two seated and provides average facility, though mess Foods are of good quality. And the benefits derived compared to cost is very high. For those students who doesn't get university hostel can reside in private hostel in the local area, where the cost ranges from INR 5000-7000 based on the quality of service availed.
Alumni/Alumna
BHU is a ragging free campus, seniors here are very humble and cooperative and they will make you learn a lot of things about course and life. BHU also has a good alumni network and there are frequent alumni meet over a period of time.
Exam Structure
In the undergraduate course, there is 6 Semester in total. Each semester is of 6 months and exams are taken 1 per semester and 2 exams a year in total. Exams are of the total of 100 marks where the written paper carries 70 marks and sessional exams carry 30 marks. The results are prepared on CGPA basis. The exam is not a burden here and provides sufficient time to take up other activities.
Admission
The registration procedure for the Entrance Exam (UET) is fully online, The online application form are available on the university website , registrations are open from mid January to March. Exam is generally conducted in month of May. The candidates selected in the UET receives a call letter for counseling and are further called for counseling with the bench of professors where they are required to carry class 12th marksheets and other enlisted documents which are verified by the professors and at this stage there is also a system of filling online preference entry form. In the counseling stage candidate called to seat ratio is 1:4. So, even if you are called for counselling thst doesn't gurantee addmission. Finally after a week of counseling students are intimidated through their online portal with the university wether their addmission is confirmed or not. If the addmission is confirmed the Link to payment gateway appears on the online portal where you have to proceed and make payment after completion of payment you will receive an enrollment letter that is the proof of addmission confirmation. The session starts from end of July.
Faculty
The faculty of college is highly qualified and Nobody less than Holding a Doctorate degree (PhD) is recruited for teaching in the college. The faculty holds Masters degree and specialisation in various fields of commerce and business and some of them also holds professional degrees of CA, CS, and PGDM from IIMs. Overall Faculty is very supportive and shows a keen interest in teaching new and practical things apart from the curriculum.
