Remarks
Sometimes the administration fails to take proper decisions which can affect a student's life like the recent case of ragging where 22 students were suspended without proper investigation.
Entrance Preview
You have to give two tests - JEE Mains and JEE Advanced. To give JEE Advanced, you need to score above the cutoff marks in JEE Mains. Based on the AIR in JEE Advanced, you can then apply for admission in IIT's and some other GFTI's. There is no interview process and the test consists of questions from high school Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. There is an online process for seat allotment where you fill up your preferences for college and branch and you get a seat based on AIR.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose Electrical Engineering as my major branch. The college is among st top 150 universities in the world for Electrical Engineering. There are lab courses in every semester and plus you could go for internship in a technical company or under a professor for practical and in depth learning. There are also options for pursuing optional research projects during the semester. You can also take courses of other branches and also pursue a minor degree in another branch. You can also do a double majors or dual degree.
Internships Opportunities
The college doesn't provides an internship but like a placement season, there is also a process where companies come to campus to recruit people for internship and the average stipend depends on your profile. For coding and banking profile the average stipend would be over 50 k per month with highest packages 2 lac per month. For core sectors, the average stipend would be close to 25 k per month. I have yet to go on internship next year summer so I can not comment on the experience
Placement Experience
The placement scenario is very good and almost more than 80% of students who apply for placements get placed. The average package(total including other bonuses) in placements is close to 12-14 Lac per annum. All the major companies of every branch visits the campus like Facebook, Adobe, Microsoft, Intel, IBM, Texas Instruments, Goldman Sachs, ITC, Tower Research etc
College Events
We have three major fests - Udhghosh (Sports), Antaragani (Cultural) and Techkriti (Technical). There are counted among the biggest college fests in India with budgets for Techkriti exceeding 2- 3 crores and 1 crore for Antaragni. Major artists from all over the world like KSHMR, Poets of the fall, Shankar Ehsaan Loy, Vishal Shekhar have performed in these fests. The fests are completely managed by students
Fee Structure And Facilities
After the most recent hike, the the academic fees are close to 90k/semester although it depends on your socio-economic background. In addition to this, you also have to pay hostel and mess fees which add up to 2-3 k per month.
Fees and Financial Aid
There are many scholarships for needy students sponsored by college, state and central government, private companies and alumni fund. You can also get a loan from major national banks very easily and the college helps the students for loan during orientation.
Campus Life
There are many cultural and technical clubs in the campus with a very great culture. The college also has great sports facilities. You can get ample opportunities to explore your non academic side.
Hostel Facilities
Yes, all the students need to reside in hostels which are in the college campus. There are single, double and triple rooms and there is a sort of random process for determining which type of room you get. All the fourth year have single rooms. The room rent is INR 20/day and electricity bill is around 500-700 INR for a double room. The food is above average but very affordable. Also there are many food outlets like Dominos, Subways, CCD, etc. and many canteens. You also get a fast LAN connection with unlimited access and and very less restrictions.
Alumni/Alumna
There are frequent events organised for alumni and you can go to these events to interact with alumni. The alumni have been contributing in development of infrastructure, placement opportunities and other areas as well
Exam Structure
The load of courses depends on the branch. For some branches like chemical engineering, chemistry, biological sciences, the load is very chill but not for branches like Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences. For my branch, I have 2 labs of 3 hours in a week and 2-3 mini quizzes every week and 2-3 long assignments every month. There are two semester exams, one during the middle of semester and one at the end. In addition to these exams, grading also involves quizzes, mini quizzes, assignments, project, etc. which depends on course to course. There is no overall attendance policy but some professors do take attendance.
Faculty
All the professors have a Phd degree from reputed universities around the world and also have an excellent research experience. Although some professors don't teach very well, but only a very small percentage of professors fall in this category. The professors are mostly very interactive and supportive. In addition to professors, there are also teaching assistants who are Phd students who also are very supportive. The course content is very good and very relevant to the current technology framework.
