Course Curriculum Overview

4

I chose BA Journalism and Mass communication and for me the whole course was very interesting. If it were not for my faculty I wouldn't have loved the course as much. My faculty members are not only great professors but also good communicators. They are the most friendly faculty I have ever come across and no matter how late it is some professors would clear your doubt at midnight over text. All the professors are either Phd graduates or master graduates. At present we have 7 professors and our batch had 39 students. So the ratio between the two is quite balanced. Now coming to the exam part, our professors would first scare us with the whole syllabus during internals and then reduce it to the areas which are taught in class. We had 1set of internals of each paper of 10 marks each (usually descriptive). The questions were of mid level difficulty not too hard not too easy.

Internships Opportunities

1

A few companies came to the college during my time and most of them were for BCom and BBA students. The roles were mostly of accounting, content writing, tally, etc. One of the content writing job which I applied to was to make questions regarding a subject. The company was a publishing organisation and published books.

Placement Experience

1

Candidates can participate in the campus placement drive from the second year. Some companies that come for placement provide only for interships and some provides full time. The average package offered is around 3-4 LPA for full time. Internships provide around 2k-3k per month depending on the company. The companies like Axis Bank, Airtel, TCS, EY, etc. come and place students from the campus. Around 35-40 companies come to place students with different job roles. After I got my degree I opted for Higher Studies and currently I am studying at Pondicherry University.

Fees and Financial Aid

If I compare the amount spent in my graduation to the job opportunities provided, then I'd say its quite poor. The college is not great at providing intership or placement opportunities. Companies do come and conduct placement drive but are all low paying ones. My course has the highest fee structure yet there wasn't any company that came for media jobs. The Bhawanipur Scholarship Scheme is the name of the scholarship it provides. It is quite effective and only handful of students get it. Candidates need to apply for the Scholarship during the admission and it is on first come first basis as only 200 students will receive it.

Campus Life

3.5

Bhawanipur College is all about social life. Starting from sports, dance, music to theatre, BESC has it all. One can experience the best extra curricular in the college. No matter what comes in the way, every week there should be an event. Students can completely and quite beautifully display their talents and it is the place were talents are appreciated immensely. The annual fest Umang is blaringly celebrated and students from all over Kolkata come to be a part of this fest. Every year during Umang a new celebrity is called upon. In 2023, Mohit Chauhan was invited and students get free passes to the concert. Coming to the amenities part Bhawanipur is well equipped with modern day equipments. Every classroom has smart board and labs are equiped with new models of computers. The sport arena is well loaded for both indoor and outdoor activities, starting from basketball to carrom, it has it all. There are several Collectives (social groups) that the students can be a part of.

Admission

The admission process of the besc is very simple and donot involve any admission test. Applications will get uploaded in the official website (thebges) named under Admission Open. Eligibility: 1) Candidates need to have atleast 55% marks in their board examination. 2) Candidates need to have passed in English as well in their boards 3) Candidates belonging from backward classes needs to have a minimum of 40% marks in aggregate in their board examination. Note: Candidates who have scored above 90% in their boards can avail to the scholarship where 50% of the fees is reduced. Admission process is quick and the office authorities clear any doubts regarding the admission when called. Improvements in the admission process can include an entrance examination. This examination would determine the academic quality of a student.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I feel the theory part of our curriculum isn't much relevant or prepares for real - world applications, only some basic information is what I feel is necessary, although the lab and the practical part prepares us for real - world applications and teaches us a lot of things related to photography, news paper page building, survey report, etc. I believe they should have a better approach and teach more relevant real - world or in demand market skills which'll help the students in the future. Exams are conducted 2 times in a year, once between March - april, and second time between August - September.

Course Curriculum Overview:

From my childhood, I'm into music and this course allows me to further widen my knowledge of the entertainment industry, films, Television and etc. So this course will allow me to understand how media and journalism world works, and help me pursue the art that I love. The timings could be better of the college, but rather than that everything is mostly good. The frequency in my opinion, should be reduced to 3 main semester exams, and to have small mid semester exams throughout. That's my perspective.

Course Curriculum Overview:

1. I opted for this course because I thought it would have a good practical work, with good exposure and experience. But this course has nothing as such. The documentary we did was done all by ourselves. College did not help at all. There was a photo journalsm option in one paper but our college did not let us study that. They did not teach anything about photography, no practical training was given. 2. None. The curriculum doesn't prepare us for the real world at all. There is no professional study or activities. No preparation for interviews or real world jobs. Only theoretical and advices from our faculty. College doesn't provide any activity that can help us for the real world job. 3. More and more practical work with the help of college. More exposure needed. High quality software and equipments are needed. Students need a GOOD professional lab. More exciting activities for students. Placement opportunities, internships etc. 4. BAD. Per sem arrives in 2.5 months, too short time

Course Curriculum Overview:

Journalism is one of my favorite sudject . One of the reasons for choosing this subject is that only a journalist can highlight the good and bad aspects of our society before the people. The scope of the subject is journalism but it is huge. We can learn not only journalism but also photography, radio, film studies etc. The behaviors of all the professors in the journalism department in this college is very well. They very carefully explain all the topics thoroughly to the students so that the students do not have to face any difficulty with those topics later. Every year two semesters are taken every six months if the students do all the classes carefully and study well then they can easily pass by getting good marks
