What Students Say
Likes
- Connectivity: SGSITS is located at City centre and railway station and bus stand are in 1km radius
- Campus: campus is small, old fashioned, not all facilities available, some buildings are on verge of falling down but above all the Campus is lively, clean and green
Dislikes
- Small campus - campus is quite small. One can just have a walk around the college in a matter of 10 minutes.
- Hosteller and Day Scholar rivalry: students of the college are involved in this rivalry (not all students) which somehow also effect friendship, clubs recruitment and many more things
Course Curriculum Overview
Course curriculum of different branches is almost same as other govt engineering colleges. In first year , all branch students sir together but from second year classes are held branch wise. The reason for choosing IT was because of personal interest. However, in our college CSE and IT are comparable with just one difference that CS faculty is strict and CS students are always roaming around with due assignments or projects while on the other hand, IT is a chill branch. Talking about the faculty, in CSE and IT , there are around 15-20 faculty out of which around 3 are professors and rest are either associate or assistant professor. However in older branches like Civil and mechanical, there are around 6-7 professors and rest are associate or assistant. Faculties are well read (not all, specially the newer ones) and are good according to the college and there teaching methods are okay-okay, it's just you need to focus if you need to learn anything.
Internships Opportunities
Interships opportunities are provided to students and on-campus intership drives are also held. But only a selected students get interships on campus around 10 from each branch. Intership are provided to students at end of second year and onset of third year. Many companies come but I ain't sure as I haven't applied for internships yet. Only serious students who have mastered DSA , Web dev or any other branch specific thing, have good projects, good grades , good communication skills get the internships. CGPA matters , keeping it around 8 is ok but a higher CGPA always offers edge over others
Placement Experience
Campus placement are not that good. Everyone here says that placements are good and are right if compared to other colleges in Indore(except IIT Indore ????) . Most of the students out of those eligible for campus placements are placed . Some get good package , others get moderate packages and the rest get lower packages. Getting placed or getting placed in a good company or not getting placed is totally in the hands of the individual and his preparation for the same. Major companies arriving our college are Goldmann Sachs , Deutsche Bank, Deloitte, Asian piants , MasterCard. Many off campus opportunities are also available for students and every year a lot of student opt for that
Fees and Financial Aid
Fee structure is same for almost all branches except IT (information technology) and BME (bio medical engineering) because these are the self financed branch and hence fees for these two courses is slightly more than the other. In my case, IT fees was 60k per semester and other branches fee was 47k per semester. Different scholarship are provided to students like Post-metric and medhavi . Post-metric is given to OBC, SC and st students and medhavi is given for all students with some mains score criteria. However, an individual can only opt for not more than one scholarship. If a person isn't eligible for scholarship then he/she can go for educational loan. As of my experience, no campus jobs are given to students.
Campus Life
Life at campus is good and better than most of the colleges in the city. Campus is quite small but lively. Each year AAYAM is organised in month of February or March. It's the annual fest of SGITS and imo it's not worth attending unless DJ night is organised. Course books are Available in the library. First year classes are just rooms with benches chairs blackboard and podium . From second year, classes are held in lecture halls which are quite better but still not that good . Scope for sports and extra curricular activities isn't good. If you know a particular sport you can play but if you don't then no one's there to coach you(one can make friends to help them learn). Only one ground is there which is also a part of the Hostel - day scholar rivalry so chances are less that one is going to do well in their sports career. There are different clubs in the colleges and they recruit new admissions in first or second year. Alumni student club, NCC, GS Racer and TnP cell are worth joining
Admission
Admission process is simple and same as most engineering colleges. You write the Jee mains exams, get your score and apply for SGSITS INDORE (Undergraduate) by MPDTE counselling. Sgsits isn't available in JOSSA Counselling. Procedure: 1) Register yourself for the counselling whenever it starts(keep visiting the MPDTE website to know about the counselling dates) 2) Select colleges and branch according to your preference. 3) wait for the result to come. 4) If you're given any seat then visit the college to get admitted or if you want any other of your top preferences then fill form for first round upgrade or 2nd round) You can also get admitted in SGSITS by using your 12th score(the procedure is same for both i.e. using mains score or using 12th score) . Since SGSITS is a state college so mostly seats are reserved for students with domicile of Madhya Pradesh. However, outside MP students can also take admission but there's high competition.
