A journey worth sharing

No doubt AKGEC is the best college of UP Technical University. One should be fortunate enough if he/she gets in AKGEC. Our college management is too strict about following the rules but ultimately it is good for the students. Faculty and environment you are getting in the college are also good for studies creating competitiveness among students. Only the small campus is a little restriction for many activities to blossom at their fullest but still most of it depends upon our utilization.

The only option of getting into this college is by qualifying UPSEE other than the usual management quota system. I went to Kota for preparations but things didn’t go well and my JEE MAINS score dipped but scored well in UPSEE as well as in my 12 th boards exams which were 93.6%. My boards result upgraded my position in the merit letting me choose from top private colleges in the ranking. I always wanted a top-notch college and I have heard about the brand value of this college in terms of its campus life and placement packages. This inspired me and after consulting the studying students and faculty I got clear about my admission. I hence attended the counseling and chose this college. Since I have no idea about the streams I chose CSE keeping placements in mind and not personal preferences.

Since I was unaware of this stream chosen it was all new for me. In the beginning, I faced some difficulties in understanding the core subjects but in later years, I have managed to score better marks in every subject including core and electives both. Here we have labs for every subject each semester for a better understanding of the subjects. We have more of practical work than theory ones and most of the tasks are done through projects. Now I’m much familiar with the subject. We have a good variety of electives for every semester but only in a technical field and not for personality building like in other private colleges.

Yes, the college does provides internships but the thing is that only those got the internships who are really capable of it, sometimes students get the internship right here in the college and sometimes they have to do it off campus. the college provides internships in alliance with various companies whose excellence centers are there in the college. Certificates are provided only when you clear the exam related to the training.

In terms of placements, our college scores 8 out of 10. A lot of companies are invited throughout the year for increasing the placement percentage of every branch. As usual, placements in CSE branch is almost touches 100% which is highest among all the branches in the college. Indian Navy, Infosys, Amazon, Bosch are counted among the major companies coming for placements. Average package is about 4-5 lakhs p.a and goes maximum up to 8-9 lakhs p.a. Maintaining a score of 65% throughout the college life assures placements with a good package.

A cultural fest is organized with the name of ‘vibration’ every year that last long for 4 days inviting celebrities and students from various colleges. Science exhibitions and various other technical events are also organized in the campus for the students with big amounts of cash as a prize and it is open to all. Various types of internal events as well as a national level event named Scrolls happen in the college throughout the year. Although, it is still less than most of the colleges.

The fee structure is more or less same as all private colleges in the state which is obviously more than the govt. colleges but a little less than other Pvt. Colleges. Tuition fees are almost 1 lakhs per year excluding textbook charges and security deposit which additionally cost around 20,000 and the hostel fees are also around 1 lakh per year including the mess and laundry charges. Also, accommodation charges vary depending on the occupancy in the room.

I have taken a loan from HDFC education loans and our college has provided me with proper assistance for the suitable loan. Because of the tie-ups of college with various banks, the student can avail offers as well offered by the banks. The scholarship is also provided to the students but they have particular criteria for distributing them which include income certificate and exam score.

The college organizes a workshop on coding techniques, robotics workshop, Linux, Unix, Matlab workshop and clubs in our college also organize various events like story writing, painting, dancing and technical events like code challenge, baza, motor racing and technetium, and a large number of student participation in this event is too many.

I was living in the hostel for the first year of the college but shifted in a flat in 2th year in the neighborhood as the food and some other things didn't suit me. Food quality is same as every college and was deteriorating every year and that was my reason for leaving the hostel. Apart from this, Hostel fees were 85000 for three seaters, 90,000 for double seater and 95000 for single seater which was quite expensive for me. It is compulsorily sharing rooms for 1st and 2nd year students whereas 3rd and 4th years have options for a single room.

Annual alumni meet is organized by the college at various places. The college has also made an online blog for the alumni to interact and help through the network. Everyone can join these blogs and post their opinion or any openings in their companies.

The exam structure is good in comparison to a lot of the Pvt. Colleges but it's not easy to score enough marks. In the beginning of the semester, it isn't tiring at all but on reaching the end, there is a whole lineup of exams and one cannot afford to miss any of those. There are two sessional tests and then there is a pre-university test, these are conducted by the college and after that, there is the university test that is the final exam. Lab vivas and class tests are also conducted in the middle of the semester.

Talking about the faculty in this college I will give them 8 out of ten in terms of teaching skills communication skills. This college hires teachers from top institutions like IITs having lots of experience in teaching field. Some of them are also involved in research and development programs in other areas. Overall, the standard of teaching is great and supportive.
