AIEEE - 2011 - Score 211 - Rank 10451 I had a choice between VNIT Nagpur & SVNIT Surat in Electronics / Electrical / Computer Science Engineering. I choose SVNIT for 2 reasons 1. Proximity to HomeTown - I am Mumbaikar. So Nagpur would have taken 24hrs to reach while surat takes 4hrs from Mumbai. 2. Food - Being avid foodie surat is one of the best places on earth to have great food joints There was no academic viewpoint in deciding colleges as both VNIT and SVNIT had nearly same placement in 2011
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is rigid but mostly you would be able to cover most courses through NPTEL & other MOOCs. Focus is very less on research as most of students are not interested in taking the same . The Mtech & PhD people are also not inclined towards research as they would take faculty job in SVNIT after completing M.tech & Ph.D. In order to have good research experience, one can join clubs like Drishti. SAE etc.
Internships Opportunities
Most internships in the 3rd year are for CSE students. ECE students mostly get coding internships along with CSE students. Most students do not do internships in 3rd year. Stipend - Negligible. most work at 0 stipends. The college has a very lax attitude for providing internship & jobs. One can apply off-campus for internships.
Placement Experience
For details, one can always visit a website and download reports. Hence I will not mention numbers. But overall scenario Placements are bad for Civil & Electrical engineering. After PSU stopped visiting campus. Earlier all major PSU recruited from these core streams and an average package was 6 lakh when PSU hired. Now the scenario is worse. Highest package for CSE Next ECE & then core branches. ECE guys do not join electronics companies. Most of them are taken either by CSE or IT companies or by Electrical companies. Major Companies - ONGC, LnT, Schneider, Snapdeal, Flipkart, Schaeffler, Google, Microsoft
College Events
SPARSH Cultural fest of the college. A budget of 30 lakhs. Participation is mostly by local teams from around the western region. It is easy to participate by paying a nominal entry fees IGNIS Sports Fest. In order to participate, you should be active in sports & other activities of a college. DRISHTI: A college club which is a heart of research happening in college CHRD: A college club at the heart of the culture of drama & theatre
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fees as compared to most institutes are very less. Currently, I have heard fees has increased. Kindly review the fees as I am from 2015 batch where fees per sem were 35000/-. In all as compared to private institutes at that time the fees were very low. One can take a loan and pay back after four years & many of us taught local students in Surat for AIEEE & then JEE Advanced as many students wanted to join SVNIT (Local factors).
Fees and Financial Aid
OPJEMS Scholarship: Toppers in civil/mechanical/electrical get OPJEMS Scholarship SBI Loan: SBI SVNIT branch extends the instant loan with low-interest rates for students. Interest subvention scheme for minorities GOI gives scholarship for minorities. Kindly check once on google SC/ST: As is the case in most public-funded institutes SC/ST pays half the fees as is paid by general category student Other Schemes: SVNIT also gives support to financially weak students through lesser fees - Mess fees are waived off as well as rent if you are SC/ST with income less than 5 lakh
Campus Life
Great Campus life as most students is of same age group. Gender ratio - Of course very less in mechanical 210:3 & very high for electronics 50:50 Extracurricular: Drama club has various on-road events called nukkad Natak where teams perform on one social issue. Many awards were taken by college students. Navratri Buzz Being in Gujarat and no Navratri celebrations are little difficult to absorb. One of the best dancers come on the grass floor Robotics is mainly done by Drishti Labs although it focusses on one major event Robocon. One of the best minds come out of Drishti & all leaders of Drishti (Our Seniors) are now doing very very high technical stuff like AI/ ML, 5G, Autonomous cars in the US & in Europe
Hostel Facilities
SVNIT has one of the best facility in terms of hostel rooms & mess food. There are mainly 5 hostels - 1 for girls & 4 for boys. When we were in 2nd year 3 were new & it was amazing to see contractors working to keep government buildings clean. Mess food is mostly veg but after formation of mess committee food sometimes is nonveg too but one gets veg food in plenty as is the state of Gujarat. In 1st year & 2nd year, we had double occupancy rooms while in last 2 years we had a single room.
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni network is not at all helpful. Immediate seniors are very helpful. Many alums have pursued post graduation from IIM / XLRI / IIFT/ MDI / Symbiosis / IIT/ IISc / ISRO & DRDO
Exam Structure
Exams 1. Midterm Exam of 30marks for all papers 2. End term exam of 100marks for all papers 3. Lab marks for selected subjects -30-50 marks Midterm Exam - 2 papers in one day - one in the morning & one in evening End term Exam - One paper a day No break between exams - Except for Sunday Exams are mostly easy. Most students would obtain previous years question paper & pass exams
Admission
I got admission through CAP rounds conducted by AIEEE. I got SVNIT in 5th round. Fees at that time was Ras.35000/- which could be paid easily in any cap designated centres. Form entailed AIEEE marks and state of domicile. While taking admission the college had made enough provisions for parents to stay & pay fees through loan . Instant loan is available at SVNIT SBI branch. There are many scholarships also for financially weak students or highly meritorious students. After paying fees in demand draft we also need to pay hostel fees - Rent & Mess food. Teaching Day 1 had already began & you immediately start taking classes after getting admission receipt from CCC
