Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

I chose this course because that is what my rank was availing. Also, I am interested in engineering, in general. So different branches were not really of the concern. The faculty is good, the main teaching professors at least. Some lab assistants can be major rear-enders. The college is a bit uptight but all in all, it's okay. The faculty is very well qualified. Most of them are PhDs and they know their stuff. They have studied from reputed institutions like IITs and IISc. Exams are a pain. They happen every month. There are 3 internal exams in the 5-6 month semester, one big project, a bane known as EL and then your SEM ends. They're easy to pass but maintaining your CG can be a pain.

Internships Opportunities

4.5

There are a lot of sweet money-making opportunities here. RVCE is known for its placements and faculty. You can get anything you want, as long as you clear the interview. There are also department projects. Companies come with problems. You solve them and they pay the departments handsomely. And the department pays you. You'll get a small cut and the college keeps the rest. If you're good with the professors, you might even get more than the others. The companies pays in lakhs and you'll be paid a few thousands. But it's still worth it.

Placement Experience

4.5

Students are eligible for internships from the first year, itself. But the actual placements come a bit later. A lot of companies visit. Everything from Microsoft to Mercedes. Everyone gets a chance. The highest package this year has been 60LPA+ and the average is 18LPA. A high percentage of students get placed and a lot pursue higher studies. I plan on studying more, after this.

Fees and Financial Aid

Scholarships are biased towards girls and Karnataka students. Almost nothing for the rest. There are no campus jobs and financial assistance is a loan approval at best. My fees is 2.4L per year. The exam fees alone will loot you, I feel.

Campus Life

4

The E-Cell and the various departments conduct small fests throughout the year, non which are on par with big colleges. 8th Mile, which is the flagship event, happens every 2 years and it's somewhat alright. There are no tech fests. Books are available in the library for issuing and journals are provided by the departments in charge. Sports are there. Currently, construction is going on for more sports complexes. Extra curriculars are also there. But you won't have time for everything. The only thing that I love about this college are the clubs. I am in Ashwa, the oldest Formula Student club of India. It is a club of RVCE. And it is where I've had the most learning, so far. I recommend being in clubs. Else it's pointless to come here.

Admission

I am not from Karnataka. Therefore, I had to take the COMEDK enterance exam. This year (2023-2027) was tough as nails. The exam was easy but the cutoff went very high. I scored 85 marks and my rank was around 6.5K. Other years may have yielded a higher branch, but I got into Mechanical Engineering. This was due to the fact that I had a college preference over branch. I like mechanical engineer and find it helpful, in line with my future career paths. You can find the details on the COMEDK website. Everything is outline and documented properly. One thing that I would like to be improved is the fact that the admission process is kind of a lock in. You will lose money, all of the first year fees, if you opt out at the last round. It is very unfair. Even VTU has some guidelines saying that if you dropout of the college before completing the degree, you must pay the whole 12-14L of the whole degree. They make you sign an affidavit saying that you will pay. It is unfair in that sense.
