Course Curriculum Overview
I was fascinated by the electrical devices that we use in our day to day lives, thus I chose Electrical Engineering to study more about it. The curriculum is rigorous and is one of the toughest course in the campus but it also prepares us well for future endeavours. Exams held here are of many types. Mini Quizzes are held once every week, major quizzes are held biweekly or at total 2 times in a semester, while mid semester and end semester examinations goes without saying.
Internships Opportunities
Students generally sit in internship interviews after 4th semester ends. Stipend varies from 50000 to even 400000. Students go for internship in the summertime after their 5th semester. Various companies hires from IIT Kanpur such as Amazon, Goldmann Sachs, Barclays.
Placement Experience
After 6th semester, students become eligible for placements. All the major companies like Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Axis Bank, Goldman Sachs, etc. visits the campus every placement period. 100% students sitting for placements get placed.
Fees and Financial Aid
Tution fee hikes are minimal or non existent. The complete cost of my education is about 9,60,000. There are various scholarships provided such as INSPIRE, Merit cum Means, and details are available on the website.
Campus Life
Fests are held throughout the year such as Antaragni, Techkriti - Asia's Largest Technical Fest, Udghosh - Sports Fest with participants from all across India, E Summit and many more. All of the clubs and societies here are run by student bodies. Few of them are GameDev, Dance Club, Music Club, etc.
Hostel Facilities
There are double and triple occupancy rooms available. Additionally cupboards, study tables, pin boards, shelves are provided. Meal quality is decent and menu is inclusive of food from all parts of India.
Admission
You have to qualify JEE Advanced and get a rank under 9500 to get admission in IIT Kanpur. Application is done through JoSSA. JEE Advanced is held only once per year. But JEE Mains is held twice a year before, and to be eligible for JEE Advanced you need to qualify JEE Mains as well.
