Course Curriculum Overview
My decision to pursue my current course was influenced by its alignment with my JEE rank. The department has been proactive in modernizing its curriculum, with revisions guided by consultations with faculties from prestigious institutions like IIT Kanpur and BHU. This academic year heralds a pivotal change with the appointment of a new Head of Department, characterized by dynamism and innovation, spearheading efforts to introduce practical subjects and foster a culture of creativity. Moreover, the department places a strong emphasis on research, boasting a faculty renowned for their expertise and dedication. Under their guidance, students are encouraged to actively contribute to ongoing research endeavors. In terms of assessment, the department conducts two main exams per semester, allowing for comprehensive evaluation. Overall, the department's commitment to academic excellence and research creates a stimulating environment conducive to growth.
Internships Opportunities
This year, several students have secured lucrative internship offers from renowned companies, showcasing the strong industry-academia interface of the college. Among the notable internship offers, students have been selected by D.E. Shaw and Arcesium, with offers of 1.5 lakh per month each, highlighting the recognition of their skills and potential. Additionally, internships at DBOI and Visa, offering 75,000 per month, provide valuable learning opportunities in the finance and technology sectors. Moreover, internships at PayPal and Microsoft, offering 1.5 lakh and 1.25 lakh per month respectively, underscore the diversity of opportunities available to students across different domains.
Placement Experience
Students can engage in internships starting from the 6th semester, with a two-month internship during the summer break between the 6th and 7th semesters. Additionally, longer-term internships are available in the 8th semester, spanning six months, providing deeper immersion into the field. The college encourages participation in competitions and events, fostering a competitive spirit and excellence. The college hosts a diverse range of companies for placements, including Microsoft, Amazon, Oracle, Adobe, Arcesium, Optum, Intuit, Visa, ZS, DBOI, and D.E. Shaw. The highest offer this year was 65 LPA by LinkedIn, with an average package of around 10.5 LPA. Nearly every branch maintains a placement rate of around 90%, reflecting the college's strong industry-academia interface and rigorous training provided to students.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee structure for my course varies based on the category of the student and their annual income. For general and OBC category students with an annual income above 5 lakhs per annum, the tuition fees amount to 72,000 per semester. However, for those within the income range of 1-5 lakhs per annum, the fees are reduced to two-thirds of the tuition fees. On the other hand, SC and ST category students do not have to pay any tuition fees. Additionally, regardless of category or income, all students allocated hostel accommodation must pay an annual fee of 56,000 for hostel facilities. To alleviate financial burdens, various scholarships are available, such as the OP Jindal and KK Menon scholarships. Furthermore, government scholarships provided by state governments offer additional financial assistance to eligible students. These scholarship opportunities aim to ensure that all deserving students, regardless of their financial background, have access to quality education.
Campus Life
The college hosts five major fests from November to March: Vigyaan, Samar, Eklectica, Avinya, and Codeutsava. These festivals showcase students' talents across various domains. The library offers an extensive collection of books, accessible to all, with lending privileges available. Classrooms are spacious, well-ventilated, and equipped with modern amenities like AC, fans, lights, and projectors. The gym operates from 5 pm to 7 pm, managed by the sports committee, with a new sports complex under construction. Hostels feature facilities for badminton, table tennis, and other indoor games, promoting an active lifestyle. The college boasts 23 major clubs and societies, each making a significant impact in its domain. More information about these clubs is available on the college website and Instagram pages, fostering student engagement and participation.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel accommodation is organized with three students sharing each room, totaling to eight hostels on campus: three for girls and five for boys. First-year students are accommodated in four hostels, while second, third, and fourth-year students are allocated to one hostel. The mess fees amount to approximately 56,000 INR per year. Each room is furnished with three desks, three beds, three almirahs, two fans, and three tube lights. Food quality in the mess is ensured to be healthy, with the menu decided by the mess committee of each hostel. Four meals are provided daily, including breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner. Hostel allotment is based on factors like CPI, category, and diversity ratio within the department. Students who are unable to secure hostel accommodation are assisted in finding rented PG accommodations near the college campus.
Admission
The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is the gateway for students aiming to pursue engineering studies in India. Divided into JEE Main and JEE Advanced, the former is comparatively easier, while the latter poses a more significant challenge. Eligibility for JEE Advanced is limited to Class 12 and a subsequent drop year, while JEE Main allows for three consecutive attempts. Following the exams, the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) manages the admission process for National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), and Government Funded Technical Institutions (GFTIs). Applicants must submit preferences for colleges and departments, and JoSAA allocates seats based on scores, category, and availability. The process aims for fairness and transparency, ensuring students secure admission into their preferred institutions.
