Remarks

The college has been able to keep up the reputation throughout several years because of its governing body. The college provides you quality education as well as endless opportunities. There are some restrictive rules that probably won't make much sense, overall the college is good.

Entrance Preview

Since St.xavier's is an autonomous college, the syllabi and exams are set by our own professors who understand the level of competition as well as the capacity of the students. I opted for this college because of the intellectual freedom it provided and not being bound by many university rules, the students are at a major advantage. Also being a Jesuit Institute, the college reinforces social involvement programs which are a great plus.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The syllabi are vast and deep, much more compared to Mumbai University curriculum. Personally, I find it challenging enough. Self-study and research under the guidance of the professor is the learning method. The curriculum also broadens social services, seminars, workshops, fests and paper presentations etc. Personally, I find it challenging enough and with enough input from the faculty to improve your subject knowledge according to interest.

Internships Opportunities

Yes. It is mandatory to do an internship while doing your UG. The college will assist you in finding an internship outside the college. The faculty, as well as the internship cell, will help you with it.apart from that some internships are provided within the campus itself with a stipend around 10k. The stipend for internships outside college varies.

Placement Experience

4.5

There is a placement cell in Xavier's which manages to bring a lot of MNCs and other companies to campus and the placement is quite good. If you are an ECO major or a BMS or an IT student, chances are you'll be placed before even completing your final exam. For other departments, it depends on whether you want to go for masters or a job. The job opportunities after college are also quite good. Being a Xavierite you are at an advantage of landing on a job quite faster than a lot of other students.

College Events

5

One of the biggest fests is MALHAR which used as one of the biggest college youth fests in Asia. It's an intercollegiate youth fest with several competitions, workshops, talks, games and concert nights. There is 26 major+minor+department fest in total in st.xaviers college. It can get a little overwhelming at times. And there's also a lot of internal politics when it comes to these fests.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure for UG BA courses is pretty affordable. It ranges somewhere around 5-8k per year for FY, SY, and TY. The fee structure for BSC, BMM and BMS are very different and are higher. Other expenses may include participating in an extracurricular activity or a workshop.

Fees and Financial Aid

Financial aid is given to the students who are needy. The student can speak to the principal directly and the name remains anonymous. Financial help is also given to students who want to participate in any activity that requires payment of money.

Campus Life

4.5

The campus is situated right in the heart of South Bombay with a Victorian architecture. The campus life is fun with a lot of activities going on all the time. Extracurricular activities have been made compulsory and there's a committee that makes major decisions. A student is required to earn 60 points throughout the 3 years (20+30+10). It's also mandatory to do social services for at least 50 hours to graduate. The sports facilities are not that great and a less number of students participate. There are societies and groups for almost every single talent in you.(dance, debate, music, religion, social service, theatre, movie, etc)

Hostel Facilities

3

Hostel facility is only provided to boys ( only FY and SY) with only 75 beds. The principal is the warden and they have a curfew of 12 pm. THe hostel facility is given according to merit. Being a female student, I've not much idea about the facilities inside. Females don't have entry to the hostel. The hostel building is situated inside the campus itself and houses several lecture rooms.

Alumni/Alumna

One of the best things about a college that's 150 years old is its alumni network. They have an alumni meet every year and a lot of alumni comes back to give talks or to share their stories.

Exam Structure

An academic year is divided into 2 semesters with 5 months each. There are two internal exams called CIA's (20+20=50) each semester and one end semester exam. The end semester exam is for 60 marks. Thus the total marks for one subject per semester are 100 marks.so throughout the year, there are 6 exams. The marks are represented in CGPA out of 4.

Admission

The procedure is exclusive to UG BA,BSC students who are not from the college(in house) 1. Go to Mumbai University website, register and get the unique ID and application number. You'll also have to upload some documents and a picture. 2. Wait for the college to open the admission portal, once the portal is open,go to www.xaviers.edu and click on FY admissions.( For BMS there's an entrance exam, which happens quiet early.so check out for the dates) 3. Finish all the documents submission procedure and wait for the first merit list. You won't get an email if you get in, so keep checking the website. 4. The interview usually happens the day after publishing the merit list, so if you are an out station student, be ready to travel. 5. After interview by the VP or principle you'll be allotted the subjects of your choice and the remaining paper work will be done

Faculty

3.5

Being an autonomous college, the faculty is selected by the management. Like any other college, there are some really amazing professors who'll make you fall in love with the subject and there are some not so interesting ones. But the fact is you'll appreciate the good ones more once you have a bad lecture experience. The faculty is very approachable, all of them hold high degrees. But a major chunk of the faculty doesn't engage in research, probably because of the workload. They are everywhere doing one fast after the other and managing an exam every month.

Quite substandard and below average. Prioritised rote learning over critical thinking. Just a rubber stamp for a degree. No actual education ever took place. Exams were anually or bi annually. Exams were difficult if you cannot write 30 pages in 3 hours.

The curriculam is designed for all round development of the student and to make that person an expert in that field, these aspects influeneced me to choose it. Very well, with extra paper of real world application on each subject it ensures that we take something from the course and become industry ready The teachings methods and cirriculam are excellent I don't think any changes are required Exams are all year round, every month and are extremly difficult to deal with, as Xavier's bar is very high.

Yes, there is no specific place where we get to know that whether the college is open or not on a specific day like the day which has been declared closed by the government. The college doesn’t provide this facility for us. We have to move all towards our home to the college to get this thing.
