Course Curriculum Overview
The cse course curriculum is well rounded, balancing theoritical foundations with practical applications. It emphasizes core subjects like data structures and algorithms, operating systems and dmbs. In addition, there are elective courses which allow the students to go deep into specific areas like AI, ML, Cyber security, etc. There is also a focus on projects and internship which provides valuable experience for real world application of our knowledge. The curriculum focuses on both fundamentals and specializations which attracts students who seek a strong foundation in computer science. They could improve teaching by employing more interactive learning sessions like group projects, coding challenges and conducting guest lectures from industry professionals.
Placement Experience
VIT allows students to participate in campus placements from their pre-final year (usually the 7th semester) onwards. There are thousands of offers extended to CSE students annually. The highest package offered can be reaching up to 1 crore per annum for exceptional students. The average package for B.Tech CSE graduates at VIT Vellore is generally in the range of 8-10 lakhs per annum. VIT has a high placement percentage for B.Tech CSE students, often exceeding 90%. Fields such as software Engineer,Data Scientist/Analyst,Web Developer/Mobile App Developer or going for higher studies are the possible employability plans after graduating .
Fees and Financial Aid
The annual tuition fee for BTech CSE program is 195000. In addition to the tuition fees, there are hostel fee, mess fee, costs for course materials and other charges. The fee typically increases annually and the exact rate mat vary, the official website should provide the latest information. Merit scholarships based on VITEEE rank are awarded in the form of tuition fee waiver to class toppers from 25% to 100%, economically challenged students are provided need-based financial assistance and NRI and foreign students are given scholarships upon presenting meritorious records. VIT offers on campus employment thorugh it's student placement cell which include assisting faculty with research projects, working in labs or administrative roles.
Campus Life
There are numerous annual events: Cultural Fests: "Aarangetra" (typically in September/October) celebrates cultural diversity through dance, music, drama, and literary competitions. Technical Fests: "Riviera" (usually in January) showcases technical innovation with robotics competitions, coding challenges, and guest lectures from industry leaders. Sports Fests: "Insomnia" (often held in March/April) promotes sportsmanship through various athletic competitions. Student Interactions: VIT encourages interaction through events, clubs, and informal gatherings in common areas. You'll find ample opportunities to make friends and build networks. Technical Clubs: It has clubs like the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) student chapter, which focuses on software development and coding challenges. Non-Technical Clubs: It has a variety of clubs like dramatics, music, debating, etc. The library has vast collection of books, journals, and e-resources relevant to all the courses.
Admission
VIT has a well structured admission process but it can seem a bit hard for first timers. I took the VIT Engineering Entrance Exam VITEEE which was computer based. It tests your knowledge in physics, chemistry, maths, English and aptitude. It is important to score well in this exam and admission into the institute depends on your VITEEE rank. The cut off opening rank when I took the exam was 22000. I apllied to VIT thorugh an online application from their website. It is a straightforward process where you should submit your academic results, photos, and choose your preferred course. There's also a fee involved. After the exams the selected candidates are called for an online counseling where you should choose your program and campus based on your rank. What I didn't like is the rushed process of the counseling as there was limited time to analyze my options.
Other Applied Colleges
SRM Institute of Science and Technology - [SRMIST] | Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Computer Science and Engineering)
Based on the reviews and opinions of the people around me, VIT seemed a better choice for me.
