Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum at our college in the specific course of BSc Microbiology includes all the different kinds of theoretical and application based courses and subjects. The curriculum includes and tests you based on logical thinking and reasoning based problems. All in all,the curriculum is very well rounded and every year a number of students perform pretty well in post graduate entrance exams for different renowned colleges nationwide. On the other hand, the course can be pretty rigorous and overwhelming at times and might take some time getting accustomed to. The college is especially strict on disciplinary grounds and stresses punctuality in both academic and behavioral perspectives. Due to the new NEP 2020 Policy, the BSc(hons.) course has a total duration of 4 years divided into 8 semesters of 6 months. In every semester, there are 2 major exams, the mid-semester and the end semester. The other exams are of the minor courses which are decided by the professors during the semester.
Fees and Financial Aid
As I am currently studying in the second semester, I can give a general idea of the course fees. During the admission in 1st semester, the course fees is Rs.17000 including all the service fees, tuition fees and other compulsory charges although an additional charge might be taken for uniforms which is seperate from the 17000/-(it is a one time thing only). At the admission of the second semester,a tuition fees of Rs.4000 was charged including all the other compulsory charges. So it requires an annual fees of Rs.21000 during the first year. This might vary in the commencing years, although a general decrease in fees is observed after the first year. I don't have much information about the scholarships that the college gives out but they would aid and help you with any government or private scholarship that the other institutions or facilities may offer. There is unfortunately no capus placement cell although some students have secured jobs by off-campusing in the past.
Campus Life
There are varying technical and technological events that occur at the college hosted by the different departments. There are also science quiz and historic quiz(mostly focusing of Swami Vivekananda). There's a yearly annual sports held in the month of January and the quizes also occur around January and February. And there are also different cultural programmes held throughout the year. The library is quite well-equipped and automated. There are smart cards and other near facilities which makes it extremely easy to access. One can expect most of the books that might be required by anyone during the entire course of their curriculum. There are also books ranging from books for competitive exams to a vast collection of theoretical books and also previous year question papers. The college however,is mostly focused on academics,so you shouldn't expect much sports or extracurricular activities. Yes, they allow you to attend seminars related to academics and other related things.
Admission
The admission was done on a merit based system. There are different formulas for admission into different departments. As I was enrolling for microbiology the the merit calculation was done as follows: [{Marks obtained in (Chemistry+Biology)in boards}/2+ Marks obtained in admission test/2] Yes, there was an admission test and the difficulty of the papers varies according to the subject you were enrolling for as the respective departments set the admission test paper. In case of enrollment into bachelors in microbiology, the entrance test paper had a slightly tougher edge as compared to NEET level in biology section although the chemistry section was pretty doable. The question division was 20 biology questions+ 5 chemistry questions, the exam time was 1 hour and there was negative marking.
