Review of VIT Bhopal from a fresher

Aa a first year student I would not be able to give a proper a input on the relavance of the curriculum as almost all colleges accross India during the first year are mandated to include a lot of courses by UGC which are otherwise not very relavant to the CSE degree. However, the main difference for me coomes with the courses that the college provides without any compulsion from UGC. We had two quite practical courses one delving into the basics of Python and the other delving into OOP concept with C++. I found this particularly to be quite comprehensive. Other than that the faculty and their teaching methods for the most part are above average but I do believe one has to put efforts from their end as well in order for it to be effective. Here, two main exams are conducted: The mid term and the Finals, with 'class tests' known as Tutorials. Difficulty is moderate. Apart from the usual assignments each course consists of one mandatory group project and one mandatory presentation.

All the major MAANG companies come for internship placements. Apart from them start ups both popular and not so popular ones visit the campus too for internships. I have to say a significant amount of students bag internships every year. The roles that are offred range from Testers to SWEs/SDEs to Full Stack Developers.

The placements are quite okayish with the average and the median both lying somewhere around 7-8 lakhs. But highest packages go upto 40+ lpa. All the major MAANGs visit the campus every year. Internships are also offered from third year onwards. After the 6th semmester students become eligible for placements. According to the official website around 90% of the eligible students are placed so far for the 2023-24 session

There is no tuition fee increase policy. However, the actual fee itself is not same for all. Based on the rank that a student secures and the availability of seats available there are 5 catagories of fees for each programme starting from category - 1 to category - 5. There are no direct scholarships available that I am aware off. A more detailed breakdown of the fees are as follows. Category - 1: 200000 p.a Category - 2: 300000 p.a Category - 3: 400000 p.a Category - 4: 450000 p.a Category - 5: 500000 p.a

There are cultural and technical events that are conducted almost everyday. The main flagship event is the AdVITya. Overall the core infrastructure of the college is on par. There are a fair amount of books that are available in the libraries with a dedicated reading room. The labs are well equiped. The computers in the computer lab are absolutely beastsly in terms of their hardware. Other than that there are plenty of social, cultural and technical clubs available within the campus. In terms of sports facilities, theres a gym, a basketball court, two table tennis tables and a badminton court. However, considering the amount of students I would say the sport facilities are inadequate.

My room is quite well furnished with a bed and a spacious table that I share with three other roommates. The bathrooms are sanitary and cleaned quite a few times everyday. The mess menu is not bad but not great either. The 4-beded room along with the mess charges cost around 150000 a year which is definately not cheap.

The eligibility criteria is that you must secure at least 60 percent in your class 12 board exams over and in pcm as well. The application process starts after one registers for the entrance exam VITEEE which is conducted once a year during the months of April or May. I would personally consider the exam to be of moderate difficulty on a scale where we say JEE Mains is challenging and JEE Advanced is hard. One can apply for the entrance exam through their online website. There is no reservation quoata. I personally secured a rank of around 27000 in VITEEE 2023. I do think that the admission process can be made a bit simpler by putting in some efforts in improving their main website a bit.
