Dislikes
- The college does not happen to have any hostel facilities as of yet which makes it difficult for a number of students to attend classes on a regular basis, furthermore, results in them missing the early classes.
- As of campusing and career development opportunities, there are several seminars arranged every few months, however the seminars are not very efficacious and the attandance is very low
Course Curriculum Overview
Being an English course student, this course impacts my day-to-day lives as the language has extensive usage in terms of communication. The courses at Vivekananda College are taught with care and brilliance, making it easier for students to navigate their futures in the academic field. The exams are done every 6 months from when a semester starts with internals being done 2 months prior in order to prepare us for the final exams. The papers are reasonable and can be answered gracefully if one attends the classes regularly.
Fees and Financial Aid
For each semester, we are to pay around 3,200 for the B.A General (English) course. It includes computer lab fees as well. There are several scholarships and financial aid are available to pursue from the college and it is encouraged heavily. Anybody can avail of the scholarships if able to maintain a certain SGPA and have the necessary documents needed for the scholarship applications.
Campus Life
Vivekananda College successfully holds functions more than one time a year. The students actively take part in many categories including dancing, singing, drawing competitions, and such. There are many libraries in the college with a vast inventory of books– Textual books and novels alike. With a library card, a student can choose whatever book they prefer to either read or take home for a reasonable amount of time. The classrooms are neat, spacious, and convenient and there are many hall rooms available to accommodate a larger student body.
Admission
The admission process for the course was very easy as all it took was the marks from the higher secondary exam. You either get into the college when the first list is out or have to wait for the second or third list to be out. If waitlisted, there is a possibility to get admission still afterward as it is common for many students to leave the opportunity in order to take admissions in other respective colleges. The application form can be found on the website of Vivekananda College and it can be filled out online. The application dates including the last dates of admission and admission fees– are all mentioned on the website.
Faculty
The teachers at Vivekananda College, especially in my department (B.A General with a specialization in English) were approachable and always open to discussing whichever problems we've had. As of numbers, we have had about 50 students and we have had 3 teachers to teach us each subject and the syllabus was split accordingly. Having multiple teachers on one subject made it easier to grasp the entirety of the syllabus before the semesters ended. Each teacher's teaching techniques were different and having more than one outlook on each subject was incredibly helpful and through discussing and interacting, the lessons we've learned– be it textual knowledge or more than that, made it interesting and worthwhile.
