- The college is one of the most prestigious and reputed colleges of the country with a patient footfall of 6000 per day. Its a government college 150y old.
- Great faculty, classes are held regularly, hostels are nice and clean, room is spacious. We've a huge field for students and auditorium. Co-curriculars are held throughout the year.
- Campus is big with good security. Our fest- ECSTASY is full of grandeur. Artists like farhan Akhtar, Vishal Shekhar, Sonu Nigam, Anupam roy and many more have performed. The library is open from 9am-8pm. Library and lecture theatres air conditioned
Dislikes
- Being in central kolkata, Sealdah area is crowded
- Campus could be better cleaned. Patient party sleeps in the campus areas at night, thus campus isnt cleaned as much
- As strength of each batch is 250, it becomes difficult for the professor to pay attention to every student
Course Curriculum Overview
Course curriculum is decided by the university, and college follows it in their own ways. The curriculum has 4 years of studying and practival learning with one year of paid internship. During the four years, all aspects of medical science is taught and post internship, one emerges as a well qualified doctor. Exams are held frequently and are of moderate difficulty level
Internships Opportunities
Internship is mandatory for all students of the college after passing the 4th year. Stipend is around 28k per month . I'm not an intern yet. Internship hours are long but patient exposure is good and there's lots to learn
Fees and Financial Aid
As it's a government medical college, tuition fees are minimal with Rs.4500 per semester. There are 9 semesters in total. Hostel fees are only Rs.12 per month. Financial aids are available for students from less privileged backgrounds. Stiped is around 28k during internship.
Campus Life
Our college hosts one of the best fest- ECSTASY. Artists like Farhan Akhtar, Sonu Nigam, Vishal Sheykhar, Anupam Roy, MD. Irrfan, Fossils band, Fakira band, The local train and many other eminent artists have performed at our college during fest. It's a 5 day festival with numerous competitions and art and cultural as well as academic activities. Besides this, we've intra and intercollegiate competitions held throughout the year . The freshers party is a grand 3 day festival as well Both indoor and outdoor sports are promoted in our college and we've frequent tournaments as well. We've a students council who organize the activities in college . Besides this we've blood donation camps, seminars and symposiums in college.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel facilities are good. We've the lady Elliot girls hostel for undergraduate girls and Lady doctor hostel for interns and post graduates. Rooms are spacious with a bed, table and chair. Electricity and water is available 24*7. We can add our own almirahs to the room. Elevator is present in hostel and water cooler and washing machines are available. Bathrooms are cleaned everyday. Hostel is very affordable at only Rs.12 per month . Hostel food is good at well. Non veg is available everyday.
Admission
Admission is only through the NEET exam, and class 12 graduated with physics, chemistry and biology are eligible for the exam. You get a college according to your rank. I had a 6k rank in 2021 and got this college via state counseling. I'm from general category. Exam is held once a year. I believe it'd be better if it was held more than once like JEE
Faculty
Faculty to student ratio is poor as there are 250 students, but the faculty is good. For practicals, we're divided into small groups and again into subgroups, thus l practicals are conducted which is very effective. They teach well, don't lose their patience and repeat their explanations as well as clear doubts. We can easily approach our faculty interact with them. They're welcoming
