What Students Say
Likes
- The faculty members, specifically in my department, are excellent. They strive to bring out the utmost potential of the students. They are interactive and easy to get along with.
- My fellow students are brilliant in multiple fields, including academics, as well as other co curricular activities. There's always something to learn from them, favoured by the environment that the college has set.
- It provides a lot of opportunities for students for exposure and further learning. Frequent programme, seminars, talk-show, interactive sessions with eminent personalities are held.
Dislikes
- The campus isn't a closed campus. That is a little troublesome as it takes a while to move from one campus to the other for important purposes.
- People with different linguistic backgrounds can have the tendency to feel left-out or alienated as the vernacular language is used the most.
- There is a lack of certain facilities, including a spacious and hygienic canteen, sufficient number of washrooms, larger and more advanced class rooms, etc.
Course Curriculum Overview
The university has began to implement the New Education Policy Scheme. Since we're the first batch, a lot of aspects in the curriculum are still experimented and new to both the students and the faculties. It must be mentioned that the curriculum provides the scope of learning multiple subjects by choosing different papers for our electives. The course isn't confined to the honours subject alone. The curriculum has apparently been prepared keeping in mind the necessity of applyinf it in real-world situations and further academic pursuits. Class tests are held often to check the improvement of the students and the regular exams include the mid-semester exams and end-semester exams, on the basis of which the final grade is made.
Internships Opportunities
Since I'm a student studying in first year, my knowledge on internship opportunities is negligible. It must be mentioned, however, that our faculty members have expressed their willingness to assist and help us with internships when we become eligible for it.
Fees and Financial Aid
The tuition fee varies according to the course taken. Since it's a government college, the fees are quite less and affordable in comparison to semi-government and private colleges. No extra charges are taken, except for the hostel fees for the hostel boarders. The university also has a separate scholarship branch that looks after the scholarship applications and processes of the students, which includes state-level scholarships as well as national- level scholarships like Ishan Uday Scholarship and NSP.
Campus Life
The campus life can be vibrant and fun for those who participate actively. Different events are held on a frequent basis which includes academic seminars, cultural programme, sports and other extra-curricular activities, quiz and debates, etc. Most of the students are brilliant and active, which makes the formation of a cordial social relationship possible. One can also join different clubs, organizations and groups.
Admission
To apply for the course, the student must pass Higher Secondary with a minimum aggregate marks of 50%. The admission in the previous year was done completely on the basis of CUET marks. However, an alteration has been made this year which includes the HS result along with the CUET score to be considered for admission. The admission is done completely based on merits of the two criteria. There is reservation for the reserved castes, however, it only includes those who have the permanent residence certificate of Assam. Students applying from other states outside Assam (without PRC) are included in the non-reserved/general category. After the declaration of CUET results, an admission portal is opened where necessary applications are done. Further details are included in the college website.
Faculty
The faculty members, overall, are well-qualified. They're sincere and regular in regard to conducting classes. Even the lectures are often interactive, precise and interesting. Most of them are also very approachable and more than ready to give clarity on our doubts and enquiries. Feedbacks are frequently taken regarding the teachers and the classes, and the setbacks and things that needs room for improvement are immediately worked on. However, the faculty-to-student ratio is below the sufficient number in certain departments. The university is apparently handing out advertisements in sought of Professors and Asst. Professors. The overall relationship between the faculty members and the students is cordial and friendly.
