- Outside faculty is very skillful and helpful. I was very happy with one of my vfx training faculty- jignesh sir. He is a gem. I could learn 3D designing in just a few days. Our editing- koonal sir is also very helpful and skillful. Dubey sir is amazi
- We have practical sessions like editing, vfx , cinematography, acting, direction. In such sessions we are actually made to write scripts on the spot, be it a group project or individual. We are assigned to make short films, or ads on the spot.
- A lot of exposure to the industry and good quality assignments are given. Recent assignments that were given to us were music video, ad film, short horror webisode, skits, bottle painting group project, and many creative cinematography assignments.
Dislikes
- No campus at all. It's just a building. We have our main campus in churchgate which is a little bigger. But the colaba one is meant for media students and it is just a building. The infrastructure is under renovation since 2-3 years.
- Theory subjects like foundation course. I did not find it relevant to my course. Absolutely it provides knowledge but that subject I personally find boring.
- Some of our hard worked short film assignments are not seen or reviewed giving statements like there is no time left or the semester is over. It feels hurtful when you put in efforts on an assignment and it's not viewed by the corresponding faculty
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum had many practical subjects and that was the main reason I went for this course. I was always into filmmaking but I was confused about which exact field I wsnt to explore and this course offered various criterias like direction, writing acting, cinematography, editing, vfx , animation, designing, sound, and many more. Our curriculum is practical based and prepares us for an industry level however everything in our couse is just the basics of anything so one cannot become a professional by doing this course, this course offers the basics of every field in films Even though our subjects are practical but still the lectures become boring sometimes as they are more theoriticial however as the year passes by there is improvement but everything revolves again and again and it is just basic nothing extremely advance. The exams are quite easy to pass 60 is theories and 40 is practical. The syllabus is quite easy and anyone can easily learn and pass.
Internships Opportunities
Internship is not offered to 1st year and 2nd year students however they can grab any opportunity from the faculty members if they are skillful enough. There is a placement cell for the 3rd year students which offers internship opportunities and jobs.
Fees and Financial Aid
Our fee per year is approx 60k. We can request for installments but that is a really difficult thing as you have to wait in long queues for long hours outside the college office. A student might end up paying the whole amount instead of this horrible office procedure. From personal experience I had to wait 2 months for my installment request to get signed but unfortunately the due date was near and I had to pay the whole amount at once. There is no campus placement for 1st or 2nd year students. We have a campus placement cell for the 3rd year. However students can grab opportunities through faculty members if they are skillful enough.
Campus Life
Thr main festival of kc college churchgate is kiran. Our campus has a media fest named blitzkrieg which takes place at the main campus as media college has less space. Both are held in around mid jan. Books and journals are easily accessible from the library on some terms and conditions. We have a computer lab in which most of the computers don't work or support. There is a sound studio which is been under construction since 2 years so we are not accessible to it. Our auditorium is under renovation. There are 2 lifts, one canteen and washrooms available on every floor. A smartboard in one of the classrooms and projectors in every classroom with ac, cctv and speakers. Rckc club run my college students is a club for which you have to pay a membership fee and you can access their events on a minimum spent. There is a scope club that runs fest-kiran. And knot media club which is a club of the media college. There are msny other clubs and groups like marathi mandal, nss, etc.
Admission
I did not give any entrance exam for this course. The registration and application was quite easy and I got easily admitted in this college. However after checking the list I saw that people just passed also got admission and there was a diversity of percentage cutoff in the list and I felt dissatisfied when I thought about expectations of the crowd. Application form is available on the official website. There is a Sindhi quota reservation available. Exams are taken after the end of every semester. There are a total of 6 semesters and the exams are quite easy for an average person.
Faculty
We had a really amazing teacher - Kanika ma'am but unfortunately she left the college Our teacher himanshu sir is the best guide to any student on campus. He has a very jolly and helpful nature. And he is quite experienced in cinematography and has worked for professionals. Koonal sir our editing tutor is an amazing teacher and provides a lot of guidance and critics. He gives really creative assignments Some outside faculty that I came across and found awesome were jignesh sir that taught us basics of 3d modelling. His guidance and support made me learn 3d modelling really fast Another faculty devdutt sir who was our film review tutor has a different and fun approach to teaching but he is one of the most experienced person I have ever met Shalu balan sir who taught us illustration and Photoshop is a sweet professor who is a very professional designer.
