- The hostels are excellent. The mess food is also decent. Hostel has a canteen that runs till late night
Dislikes
- Location of the college campus. It is situated on very exterior of the city. Even for buying fruits, ee had to go 10kms
- The faculty teaches us like we know everything.
Course Curriculum Overview
Our course curriculum is old and repetitive. We are studying computer networking in 4 semesters under different subject names. We dont have a programming language course other than C which is out dated for most purposes. We dont learn any development or tech stack. Placement cell focuses only on the aptitude part of the student, that too only for TCS and not common for all competitive exams.
Internships Opportunities
Internships were provided to many people. I also got a research internship opportunity from IIT Guwahati. It was also brought by our college. They contacted the professor and put us through. Many people got corporate internships as well. Though because of the mass recession, overall placements were not so great.
Placement Experience
Placementa are below average. College promised us that they will take us to Chennai campus for placements. But at the end they denied us to that opportunity. Many people are unplaced in my college. I got an offer from TCS Digital but that was it. No big companies visit the campus and most of the companies they bring don't even take a 1st round for our campus. We are directly shortlisted out of the applicants.
Fees and Financial Aid
Our college fees was relatively on the lower end. We had to pay 8lakh rupees for the 4 years as the tution fees. 4.5 lakhs for hostel and mess for the 4 years. And other miscellaneous expenses of almost 1 lakh including exam fees, fest fees etc. I also got scholarship based on merit in my college. I had a CGPA of 9.81, so i got a scholarship of about 50k in 2nd and 3rd year. So overall almost 1lakh rupees.
Campus Life
Campus life in my college is great. There is no ragging as the 1st year has a seperate hostel area. We had multiple fests. The fests were decent and not too big. There are some celebrations on festivals and holidays. There are multiple clubs that organize some events here and there. We also have a sports fest that is almost a week long. There are multiple sports that are present in our campus.
Hostel Facilities
I had a triple sharing room as it is the cheapest. But we have options of 2 sharing and solo room also. The room size is great for 3 people. We get a table, a chair, a pedestal fan, a bed and a cupboard per person. We need to bring our bedding, pillow, bucket, etc. If you didn't brought these things, you can get it from the warden office on a paid basis. Mess was good. Was expecting much worse as we hear about college mess. The food quality was good. There was a great menu for the mess. It had a mix of multiple types of tastes.
Admission
To get an admission into the college, it is pretty straight forward. Just visit the campus or contact the admission team. They will guide you through the admission process. No requirements are there in reagrds to 12th score or JEE score. It is open to all. They take a exam called SRMJEE but admission is possible without even giving the exma.
Faculty
Teachers are under qualified. Most of the teachers are previous students of SRM only and don't have much qualification. Teachers are not concerned about the subject but instead for completing the syllabus and making a proper record of assignments and classwork. Many teachers take classes only for completing there work. Some faculty are not even knowledgeable. They don't have any answer to our questions.
