What Students Say
Likes
- Reputed college with famous award winning alumni.
- All basic facilities are there. Studies is given more importance here.
- Hospital has good patient load and has all facilities for a government hospital.
Dislikes
- My college lacks emphasis on sports. There are no grounds for any sports not any teacher for coaching.
- No emphasis on culturals . Students have to take their own effort to put up some small events together.
- Very small campus. Only good thing is the auditorium which too is built by the alumni and not the government.
Course Curriculum Overview
Course is alright. For 2020 batch, course was reduced to 5 years which is fine and third year inlcuded subjects like ENT and Opthalmology which in some other universiites is for final year which is good as that would create more stress. Although teaching methods could be improved but outdated teaching methods is a nation wide thing so major change has to happen. Reality is that in most government colleges studies happen at home only from books and apps, so that time could be saved for more clinical exposure and less classroom time.
Fees and Financial Aid
Scholarships are available for backward castes and people from below poverty line. Scholarships are especially available during first year times. Tution fees are quite low at 12,000 compared to other states. Since it's a medical college, exposure at the hospital is obviously requires and that is been given here.
Campus Life
Campus life is pretty boring. No emphasis is given on culturals or sports. There are no teachers or coaches for the same. Students have to take initiative to set up small events. Most halls have ACs so that is good. Campus itself is very small when compared with other colleges. Library is good and has major books and publications there.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel is very old but new ones are being built. It's good enough for its age. Hostel mess is not great as is expected from government colleges. Registration process is striaghtforward and is done during the applciation process itself. It is 4 km from the college, buses are provided in first year. Will have to get a personal vehicle like a scooter from second year. There is less emphasis on studying here. MInor ragging/senior interactions will be there but college has anti ragging measures and takes quick action on complaining but this something to keep in mind.
Admission
I am a general category student form Kerala and got 633 marks in 2020 NEET Exam. Althought the cutoff for students from Andhra Pradesh might be lower at 600s. The NEET Exam conducted in 2020 was easy but more than 16 lakh students took part that year so competition was intense. Admission process was mostly smooth and got over 3 days itself during December that year and joined college in February 2021.
Faculty
Teachers are very approachable. There are enough professors for our 250 student batch. Top faculy with decades of experience in college and hospital many of whom are from the same college itself. Overall it is decent but keep expectations realistic as these are full time doctors and there is large amount of info that needs to be taught so teaching will be done in a haste as expected in government medical colleges.
