What Students Say
Likes
- The campus of VIT Vellore is vast and green. Something that you would appreciate during your stay in VIT is the greenery of the campus. The sky poses you for a scenic sunset often.
- There are quite a lot of clubs, infact you would be surprised that a club exists even for interests like anime. There are students from different parts of the world having similar interests, so it would be a safe and ideal environment to get together
- With FFCS in place, more frequently than not you would miss out the courses that you wanna do or the faculty that you need to do under. Faculty's method of teaching greatly varies, choice of faculty influences the learning and grade by a huge amount
Dislikes
- Classrooms aren't up to the mark with the fees we are paying, it's absolutely exhausting during summers to manage with classes which are located kilometres away from one another
- There's too much crowd, to enjoy gym, sport or any other thing within campus, THERE'S JUST TOO MANY PEOPLE. It's overwhelming at times
- Placement activites seem to be of no use, the training is absolutely useless. Opportunities are given but it is really difficult without any proper mentorship. Everyone are on their own which I understand to happen but a little heads up would be nice
Course Curriculum Overview
Mechanical curriculum got updated after since 2021, they have included AI/ML even for non-CS students to compete in the real world. EV is introduced as well instead of conventional automobile engineering
Internships Opportunities
I haven't got an internship through college, but my friends who did are placed in start up companies with a good market pay, there are several startups under VIT incubator who offers internship opportunities all year round
Placement Experience
Placements in 2024 are absolutely devastating As a mechanical student, we do not expect offers of 20lpa or 25lpa approaching the campus like the CS students The maximum package for a Mechanical student through on campus is 11lpa by several companies who recruited extremely low numbers (2 at max) Above 8lpa in mech, only females are asked to apply
Fees and Financial Aid
Tuition Fee has 5 categories, CAT 1 being least and CAT 5 being highest CATEGORY 1 is 1,95,000 CATEGORY 5 is 4,95,000 I spent 2 years at home due to the pandemic, but I paid the tuition in full 4 years of tuition and 2 years of hostel Total amounted to 17,00,000. Financial aid is available but it won't be easy to get
Campus Life
VIT holds only 2 fests. 1 technical (GRAVITAS) and 1 cultural (RIVIERA). You have to pay for every single event which starts at 200 rs and there are hundreds of events For RIVIERA you need to pay 2.5k for 4 day fest with Tier B celebrities, it is quite disappointing
Hostel Facilities
All the hostels infrastructure is pretty pretty bad, washrooms are worst, there are times ppl would go to a different hostel block to do the regular things. New hostels are comfortable but extremely overpriced (twice the fee of old hostels). Wardens are useless, they are partial to Tamilians and Telugites. No cleaning or repairs are taken seriously
Admission
Admission process is carried out online for 2020 batch Entrance was made through JEE rank and CBSE 12th result. Althought it wasnt mentioned offiically but CBSE 12th was prefered over JEE There were too many complaints on the fairness of the ranking system
Faculty
Highly qualified faculty is available, most of them encourage you to learn through physical experience rather than textbook/classroom learning. Faculty to Student ratio is 1:65 The lecturers are constantly available and encourage you to do research or atleast delve deeper into the topics. You can just reach out to the lecturer for a discussion at any point of time during your college There will be lecturers who won't encourage it as well, but the majority does help you out
