What Students Say
Likes
- The Syllabus of Course is very competitive.
- The Clubs especially the technical clubs are very active.
- The placements are good and comparable with medium tier NITs for equivalent branches.
Dislikes
- The college schedule is too hectic. It won't give you room for extra activities.
- The academic calender isn't well defined so you experience spontaneous things and so can't plan holidays in advance.
- The campus is too crowded these days and there aren't great facilities for sports.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is well designed and fitted as per industry standards. Specifically for ECE you don't need to study anything extra for placements apart from your syllabus. The course curriculum can be a bit relaxed for those students who aren't interested in that particular domain. We've three internals at almost a month gap each and one Sem End paper...apart from that we're expected to do ELs and Lab Exams for each subject. Some subjects also have open book tests.
Internships Opportunities
Phillips - 35k Texas Instruments - 80k Fidelity Investments - 30k Projects include work in various domains such as VLSI and embedded system as well as data analysis and software development. Personally I had worked to develop an ML based project for analysis of the Indian energy profile and prediction of demands in the future as well as optimization of the various sources of energy to obtain an efficient and cost effective solution.
Placement Experience
For internships companies start to come in 4th semester but in general the placements start after 6th semester. Last year around 250 companies visited with around 900 offers. Highest package was 96 lakhs per annum from a software firm in the US. The average package was around 10 lakhs per annum for the college and around 15 lakhs per annum for ECE. Around 50-60% students got placed. Right now I will do a job for few years and then I plan of having higher education.
Fees and Financial Aid
The tution fee for BE courses particularly through COMEDK is around 250k INR. There is usually a 5% yoy increase. Some scholarships are does available for underprivileged students. I've worked with the CoE as a part of a ML internship however it was an unpaid one.
Campus Life
Annual fest is 8th Mile...it is typically done in June Technical fests include E-Summit in August and other than that each department has its own technical fest but their timings are not fixed. The library has more than 100k books with subjects ranging from Core sciences to economics, as well as biographies and fiction. Apart from that there are 50+ different newspapers in English and Kannada supplied daily. The classrooms are well ventilated and have a combination of AV setup as well as traditional green boards. The lighting is fine alongwith 20+ charging points in each classroom of ECE department. The college has active clubs of NSS and Rotaract and they have well dedicated social service programs which includes plantation drives, paper drives, blood donation camps, book donation and councelling and educational camps for school children.
Admission
I had taken admission through an exam called COMEDK. The eligibility criteria is 70% marks in PCM in class 12th and you get a maximum of 3 attempts. Application can be found online on COMEDK website typically around Dec and is available till March. Only 6% of seats are reserved in COMEDK but that is just available for 5 backward districts of Karnataka. Exam is usually conducted in May in online mode at your respective exam center. The exam pattern is composed of 180 questions in 3 hours. There is no negative marking and each question carries one mark. 60 questions each from Physics, Chemistry and Maths. The difficulty level is less than JEE Mains and most of the questions are directly formula based. However one needs to be well acquainted with each chapter of 11-12th as no particular chapter carries any greater weightage.
Faculty
Some of the faculties are really good while some are just average. Particularly in ECE, all the professors of VLSI are top notch but the same can't be said for Embedded Systems. Faculty to student ratio is typically 55:1 for BE and 20:1 for MTech Most of them are PHDs with multiple publications. You can interact teachers quite often either in person or through dedicated WhatsApp group. On top of that you also usually have personal number of faculty provide.
Other Applied Colleges
Birla Institute of Technology - [BIT Mesra] | Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Electrical and Electronics Engineering)
