What Students Say
Likes
- The campus is really big, really well maintained and clean, first time entering the college was a sight to behold.
- The hostels are clean and some of the messes have really great food.
- Some of the faculties are really great and helpful. The HOD is also quite helpful.
Dislikes
- Social life is not good as vellore does not really have any places to visit.
- Some of the facilities really make our lives difficult for no reason.
- Some of the rules are very strict and make no sense. Students dont really have much freedom, but it might be great for parents as they know their children are in safe hands.
Course Curriculum Overview
I always loved coding and how computers worked, so taking computer science was a no brainer for me. The courses are really relevant and has really helped me out in my life. I had done an internship, shile I was in my college and the college courses reslly had helped me grasp the terms and functionality of certain things. No such improvements are needed in my honest opinion. The frequency and timing of the exam could be toned down a bit because after the first assessment(CAT1), very week there is either a quiz or other exams, so managing time really becomes and issue.
Internships Opportunities
There are many companies that come for internships with stipend ranging from 10k per month to a few lakhs per month in some instances. The roles generally depend on the company, some might specialise in data science, some in software development, some in networking areas.
Placement Experience
Students in their 7th and 8th semester are eligible for campus placements if they do not have any backlogs. There are a lot of companies that come to VIT, last year, it was 800+ companies that came to VIT, highest offered job was 87LPA and average was 10.5LPA. Around 95% of the people got placed last year. I plan on getting into a job, so this year I would be sitting for my placements.
Fees and Financial Aid
Tution fees has been constant for all the semester, no price hikes. My entire education including tuition fees, service fees and other compulsary charges is 2150000/- . College provides scholarships to those who score well in the VIT entrance exam. People with <1000 rank usually get scholarships. I have not taken part in any campus employment so far.
Campus Life
Rivera is the biggest festival that happens in VIT, lot of big shot singers and actors come to perform in this festival. The library is huge, 3 stories tall and has a wide selection of books. The classrooms are really modern and have all the emminities except for air conditioning. I don't really participate in any extra curriculum activities. Although I have participated in a lot of clubs, VIT has a wide selection of clubs and chapters and anyone will be able to find a club that suits them.
Hostel Facilities
Hostels are really nice, the rooms are really clean and maintained. Althought the hostel fees would be a tad bit lower. The meals depend on the mess caterers, most of them are good, while some are terrible, but all of the messes are very clean. Hostel registration and allotment is quite a hassle toh, every year our hostel needs to be changed, and it is allotted based on CGPA, so people might not get their desired room if they are not studying well enough.
Admission
As VIT takes in a lot of people, so students with <20000 rank should be able to get computer science in this college. The application form is present online, students have to fill the form and VIT will provide the rest of the details to the registered email address. The application form is non refundable. There are not any reservation benefits that I have availed. Overall I would say that VIT handles the admission of new students really well, I haven't faced any issues regarding the admission/aplication process
Faculty
The are a lot of students in VIT and I feel that there arent enough faculties as the classes become crowded quite often. Smaller number of students might help student-faculty interactions. All the faculties are well qualified to teach the students, it is just that some faculties have a good approach while others dont. I interact with faculties quite often, a lot of these faculties have help me whenever I have needed them academically.
Interview Experience
There was just an entrance exam called VITEEE, this exam is conducted by VIT itself and students just have to give this test to get a chance for admission. The syllabus for this test is similar toh JEE exam and the questions are usually easier than that of JEE. So, practicing for JEE made me capable of preparing for this exam.
