Likes
- Teachers are really nice and supportive, there is no department politics. Laboratory facilities are good
- Hostel facilities are good, food is good, very friendly environment woth great gaurds
- Administration is extremely good, I personally have witnessed other universities but this have the most strict with disciplined Administration. Never found delay in result or anything. Things sre very smooth going.
Dislikes
- There is no campus which is a drawback of this university but the construction is in progress and departments are shifting.
- Not specifically about the university but about the Gangtok city there is shortage of water.
- Buses are available but sometimes they don't maintain the schedule.
Course Curriculum Overview
Since the most important aspect of our course is field Work, what can be better than experiencing field Works in the Himalayas. Himalayas are the best place to apply your theoritical knowledge to the field. Not only field living in Himalayas means every single second you are watching and learning something about Geology. Improvement can be done in increasing the numbers of field works, we go for 14days field training twice in the course.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees is extremely affordable i.e 11k overall, there is no extra exam fees or anything. A drawback is that there is no placement in our department. Hostel fees is approximately 4k with the mess fees of ?1800/month. Which is also very affordable Ibelieve
Campus Life
There is no campus which is the major drawback of this University. But some departments are shifted to the main campus are many are still in Gangtok. But fests are gheld and students very enthusiastically participate in all the month long programmes, which ends with prom night, dj nights etc.
Admission
The admission is held on the basis of cuet marks. The cutoff for geology goes around 100 for UR. After the declaration of cuet result application forms get available in the Sikkim University website. Once merit lists are out you can go for the fees payment.
Faculty
Talking about the the Geology Department, all the teachers are phD holders with high nos. if published papers. They are the most genuine amd humble teachers I've ever came across. You can go to them anytime and that's a surety that you won't come back disappointed. There is nothing like partiality the first bencher and the last bencher are treated equally. Teachers are extremely friendly and helpful in fields too. Even if you want any guidance regarding future you can go to them anytime or mail them or just drop a text on WhatsApp and they will help you to their best.
