Dislikes
- Earlier there were some irregularities with classes. But with time it was sorted by administration
Course Curriculum Overview
I was a literature enthusiast as a result i chose English hons. The curriculum of every subject is as per UGC guidelines and if one thoroughly goes through their syllabus they can easily crack any academic exam like UGC NET, TGT, PGT, etc. My subject portion of the history of English literature was introduced a bit late and that can be improved by introducing it in the second year only. Semester Exam happen after every 5-6 months like everywhere else. If one takes their syllabus and classes seriously exams aren't too difficult.one can easily secure 7.5-8 CGPA
Internships Opportunities
Thought I never take any internship as I am looking forward to a master's and civil services but companies like Accenture, amazon, etc. offered full-time jobs and internships. In courses like BA hons these things depend on subjects. The best subjects for good placement are foreign language hons like French, Japanese, etc, and travel and tourism management (TTM).
Fees and Financial Aid
There are two types of students here in BHU UG. Regular and Paid. Those who are short of 1-2 marks from the cut-off get the paid seat. For regular students the fee for the first sem is approx 2500 and for the 2nd sem its around 350. For the third and fifth sem fees is 1500 each and for 4th and 6th sem fees is 350 each. For SC/ST students there are many scholarships as well. And all the students can do a part-time job from the 'Earn while learn' program.
Campus Life
'Spandan' is the annual fest of BHU though after COVID-19 it has been discontinued but will continue very soon. Every faculty has their own fests also. There are debate clubs like 'rhetorica' literary societies like tarz-i-sukhan, the Society for Civil Services 1% club, and for music and dance, there are clubs like Mousiquee and Taalasya respectively. BHU has a university sports board that organizes events for almost every sport from athletics to cricket. These events happen throughout the year. Apart from university students also organize many kinds of events like youth parliament, civil services fest, music competitions, dance competitions, freshers party etc. all these events help students in their overall growth.
Hostel Facilities
Rooms are of regular sizes. One had to share the room with any other student. Hostel rooms are non ac but one can have their own cooler in the room rest every essential facilities are there in hostel rooms and the fee is very nominal. Accomodation fee does not include the meal. One has to pay for every meal that is an amount of ?50 each meal. Taste and quality of meal depends on hostel to hostel but the good thing is if you don't like teh food of your hostel you are free to eat anywhere else i.e in any other hostel you like. Apart from hostel if you want to stay in a PG or room they are also very easily available in nearby areas like lanka gate, chhittupur gate and Hyderabad gate. Their prices depends accordingly.
Admission
For BA Hons. One needs to be a 12th pass with a minimum 55% from any recognized board of india. Earlier BHU used to have its own entrance exam but after the introduction of CUET, one can apply for BHU through CUET. The application fee is around 1000 for general ews and obc students. Reservation rules are applicable as per Indian law apart from SC/ST OBC and EWS reservations BHU has one more reservation which is employee ward if anyone's parents are employees of BHU they'll also get reservations in admission. The exam for BHU is CUET for BA Hons. One needs to give a language paper of 200 marks and a GS paper of 250 marks. The final merit is 350 marks (250 GS + 100 lang.). Difficulty is easy to moderate.
Faculty
Faculty to student ratio depends on department. My department was english and here it was around 1:50. Teachers are supportive and very experienced. If you'll take your subject seriously they will definitely help you out un every possible way. You can interact with your professors quite often in classrooms, in their chambers or through whats app.
