Remarks
Good, and good only. No bad remarks can I think of even.
Entrance Preview
I took entrance examinations at three colleges, including The Presidency College. Got opportunity to study at all of them, but finally chose this college. I did not score very well at the entrance examination though, but got the best opportunity of my life to get admission here.
Course Curriculum Overview
I had Economics as main subject, with Mathematics and Political Sciences as electives. The faculties were the best in the then academic world of Kolkata, West Bengal. The course structure was that of Kolkata University. This college has 2 rich libraries, one maintained by the college itself, the other is a central library, maintained by the RK Mission, Narendrapur. There was ample research opportunities and teacher student relation was homely and heavenly.
Internships Opportunities
No, this college is not an engineering or management college, so there is no internship offered. However, there were scopes to get involved in the university research works and we got recommendations from our faculties.
Placement Experience
As already mentioned, there was no placement and job opportunities since this was a pure academic college. However, all our batchmates are now well placed, for example, about 10 are now professors or lecturers at different universities throughout the world, around 5 are in administrative jobs in the Government of India, around 20 are teachers and others are at different sectors like banking, telecom, police as senior professionals.
College Events
There were a number of events throughout the whole of our study time. I spent 3 years and did not find a single month without events being celebrated. Inter-college as well as intra-college competitions like outdoor games (soccer, athletics, gymnastics, cricket, camping), indoor activities such as extempore, debate, recitation, songs were regularly held. Also there were social events where students used to visit places to serve the poor and clean the environment. There were spiritual events as well, irrespective of any particular religion.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fees structure was quite feasible for a middle, neigh, low income level family. The college is residential so along with academic fees payable at college, there was fees for hostel accommodation also. However, most of the poor and brilliant students used to get a huge concession in the fees to afford their higher studies easily. As a result, students from different states used to attend this college.
Fees and Financial Aid
There were many scholarships offered to poor and brilliant students. I have personally not heard of any loan facility, but banks were within the premises and I believe there was loan facilities as well.
Campus Life
There was no diversity in terms of gender. It was a boys only place. However, racial, religious and financial diversity was a feature of this college. As already mentioned, students from different states and countries came and admitted here, so the overall campus life was always fantastic. And some teaching staffs were also part of regular campus life as they were residents of campus area only.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel facilities were medium compared to hotels. But each of the three hostels had their separate study rooms, prayer rooms, dining hall and courtyards. The cleanliness were awesome, students had to switch off room lights by 10 pm, but they were allowed to study whole night in study rooms. Hence it was not meant for a lavish lifestyle, but we students enjoyed a lot to be there.
Alumni/Alumna
The alumni network and senior students are always very helpful. Its like a big extended family. Reunion takes place every two years at the college campus. Its a lifetime experience to all students who have passed out long ago.
Exam Structure
The exams and labs were designed in such a nice way that those never became hectic in our student lives. The lab facilities were also great and punctuality was the essence of study. Faculty
Our principal was from Department of Economics, he is now the Secretary of Institute of Culture at Gol Par. We got 2 heads of the department consecutively, the first one became principal of another college and is still holding the position. The next person was also a brilliant professor, a gold medalist in his subject. One of the maths faculties was an author of a maths textbook, which was our favorite during higher secondary studies. All of our faculties were good students in their academic career, and needless to say, the best professors also.
