Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum of PGDSC is relevant if you are looking to add to your qualifications and aspire to become a psychologist. Although it is not as detailed as a BA or an MA in Psychology, it can help a layman, who wants to explore the field of psychology, to know what s/he can expect. It helps understand children better and deal with them, in a better way than usual. The curriculm educates us and gives us an insight into our own psyches and even helps us understand ourselves and others around us. The curriculum can be a bit more detailed and rather than just reading out the course materials, teachers should aim to make the session a little more interactive and fun.
Fees and Financial Aid
In 2020, I enrolled for PG Diploma in School Counseling at Symbiosis Centre for Distance Learning, for which I had paid a fee of INR35,000. Hailing from a military background, I was granted a defence quota, thus discounting a considerable amount from my total fees. The fees can be paid in installments and has to be paid 15 days before the course commences. The project fees and exam fees have to be paid separately, as and when one decides to write the exams. The exam fee for each subject has to be paid separately for every subject and attempt, respectively. It can be paid online or via a demand draft. People with no defence quota paid around INR 45000 and NRIs have to pay an additional sum as well. A discount of INR5000 is offered on a one time payment. No financial aid is available per se, but there is a fee concession for students from EBCs. However, the education imparted at SCDL, has helped students bag decent placements for themselves.
Campus Life
Since my course was online, I had no access to campus life but the facilities by SCDL were satisfactory. The customer care available on the student helpline were always courteous and helpful. The student portal would always run smoothly.
Admission
After a gap year, I wanted to rejoin college but was unable to do so due to the COVID-19 global pandemic and decided to join this course, with an aim to become either a psychologist or a teacher. I learned about this course from a military officers wife who was a counsellor, herself. I applied to LPU for MA English but went for this course as I found this to be more interesting and helpful to deal with real life situations. The admission process was extremely simple and everything was done on phone and the fees was paid online.
Faculty
The faculties at SCDL are adept. Though they would only read the matter from the materials provided to us, they were always open to taking our doubts. The teachers could be reacher on their respective mobile numbers and emails that were provided to us. A Whatsapp group was made to create a cohesive environment, along with the teacher, so we could clear any subject-related doubts and exam-related queries. At times, it would be frustrating as the teaching seemed quite mechanical but other than that, I had a good experience. We had access to recorded study sessions, which was a boon, if someone missed their classes due to some reason or the other. I was fortunate to have faculty members who were knowledgable, approachable and pleasant. The difficulty level of these exams was moderate. The paper was MCQ type where in we had to attempt 35 questions for 70 marks. Majority of the classpopulation manages to score well in the exams as well as the project. The curriculum is relevant.
