Likes
- Teachers were good and helpful however they can be a little understanding. The infrastructure of our department was very well maintained, we had a kitchen, clean bathrooms and free wifi in the library alongwith AC.
- Our course was relevant but not very well known hence the number of students was very less.
- Hostel food was okay and security was good.
Dislikes
- My batchmates, they were atrocious. They made me feel like an outsider where as they are the ones who stay out of Guwahati
- Campus life wasn't that great, we had too many events and functions but they were mostly held at night.
- There should be separate competitions for different departments.
Course Curriculum Overview
I thought that I will be able to improve my English skills hence I joined this course. We had first hand experience about a lot of things however our course teaches us that lecture method doesn't work well but we were taught through the lecture method only in some classes. Teaching methods need to be more practical, they were fun but they can be improved. Timings for exams were convinient, we were given 4 hours to write our exams.
Fees and Financial Aid
25000 for a year or 2 semesters I didn't take tuitions and there were no lab fees. However we had to pay registration and exam fees, that was around 2000 for one semester. Fees of the SCs and OBCs was a little less, around 20,000. There were no scholarships provided.
Campus Life
There was varsity week, held for one entire week alongwith games. We also had a lot of events ans functions where popular singers would come but there were held mostly at night and lasted till morning hours There were elections as well and they would often turn into a risky affair with violence and fights.
Admission
I applied for the department of English in GU, I couldn't pass the entrance exam. I also applied in Cotton University, I got admission there but I opted for this course instead. We have to pass BA to be admitted. Also our course welcomes students from all streams like science and commerce so that is a good thing. We have to pass the entrance and then sit for the admission process.
Faculty
There were 5 teachers and we had 15 students. Our HOD however should be a little understanding, she was very strict about everything especially attendance. She doesn't try to understand our personal issues as well. There was one semester final exam. Exams weren't difficult but teachers don't give us marks, hence percentage becomes low.
