Remarks
If you are looking for engineering in computer science and information & technology, you sure can enroll in UIET without a single thought. If you're looking for graduation with mechanical engineering, don't even think of coming here unless you had to bite the bullet.

Entrance Exam
Course Curriculum Overview
Talking particularly about my own stream, I can say few disciplines of other streams could be added, especially some of the languages from computer science which I realized could've benefitted during placements. Instead of environmental education, they could have taught us different languages in any of the semesters. Overall, the course curriculum in the college is very relevant covering all the aspects of mechanical engineering.
Internships Opportunities
Among 80 students of the 8th semester from the mechanical department, only 9 had gone for the internship. Why? There's a reason behind it. Last year, the Head of the Mechanical department was changed. He formed a committee to question the students who are looking for an internship in the last semester. The committee will decide if the student is eligible to go and earn a stipend or the student will spend the rest of the months in college. Those who want to go should bring a proposal of the minute to minute schedule in the industry during internship before the committee and must defend every aspect of it to be allowed for training. Most of the students couldn't get every detail of the project and work from the organization since no company discloses their work for an intern before the training period. Those 9 students were already hired in the various organizations during placement and it was the company's policy that the students hired must be trained for six months. So, the committee couldn't stop them. The stipend those 9 students are getting is averaging about 12k to 14k.
Placement Experience
The placements and job opportunities, especially for mechanical engineering students is near to zero. As I've mentioned earlier mechanical stream might have taught the basics of programming and language which could have got them hired. Those already with a basic understanding of programming and language from mechanical engineering were hired. Apart from mechanical engineers, the engineers of Computer Science, Information and Technology, Electrical, Electronics, and even Biotechnology has more placement ratio. Eighty percent of CSE and IT engineers are placed from UIET in organizations like ZS, Deloitte, Infosys, Wipro, Standard Chartered Bank, Zycus, MuSigma, Jaro education, KPMG, Juganoo, etc. The maximum package was offered by Juganoo of ?12lac and the minimum package of 3.6lac among renowned organization was offered by Infosys. Most of the UIET engineers this year were placed in Infosys, Deloitte and ZS associates.
College Events
Goonj is the biggest event held every year in the month of February or March. Goonj is the cultural fest of the UIET department. The other departments of the university have their own cultural fests. UIET has several clubs and committee which organization various events which include fun activities, sports activities, technical activities, social activities, etc. Mitra, Magboard, Rotaract, EDC, SAE, Jugaad, TPC are the clubs and committees who organize events like Goonj, Efficars, Efficycles, GoKart, Quizzes, Flashmobs, etc.
Fee Structure And Facilities
For a government organization, the fee structure is a little expensive. When you look at infrastructure and the facilities available and provided, the fee invested doesn't look feasible. I pay around 80k every year including examination and semester fees.
Fees and Financial Aid
I've never availed any such facility because I've never come across such a facility during my graduation period at my college. But, there are exchange programs. There is Economically Weaker Section quota where the EWS candidate doesn't have to pay semester fee, the only fee payable is the examination fee every semester.
Campus Life
Talking about my department UIET, it has 3 buildings. One for CSE, IT, Biotechnology and Administration stuff. Another one is for ECE, EEE, and library. The third building is for Mechanical and Workshops. The first building for CSE and others are decorated with air-conditioning facilities even in lecture halls while the second building does not have the same facility as them. The third building has mostly labs so they have the air-conditioning facilities. UIET department doesn't have all the equipments and machines in the labs and workshops. For various work, we have to visit other institutes like PEC or the industrial areas of Chandigarh. UIET has a small canteen but it good which is affordable, accessible and available all the time from morning 8 to evening 6. UIET has only a volleyball court and a basketball court. But the university has all you need on other campuses. A big sports ground, gymnasium complex, swimming pool and the well built ground prepared for every sport you want to play.
Hostel Facilities
There are 8 hostels for boys, 10 hostels for girls and 1 hostel named international hostel for rich and NRI students in the university. The condition, infrastructure, and facilities for girls hostel are way better than boys hostel since they are newly constructed and of course because they are girls. 6 of the 8 hostels for boys are in worse condition. Those six hostels are too old. The only hostel for boys with lift facility is hostel number 8. Hostels are cheap in cost with every possible facility like 24 hours of electricity and water. Hot water through solar panels and geysers in winters. Water coolers for drinking in summer. 24 hours of WiFi services. Volleyball and Badminton courts. Gardens. Gym facilities. Food in mess and canteen at the cheapest rate. Overall the hostel facilities are very good.
Alumni/Alumna
I haven't been in touch with any of senior students or alumni network but I know there's a good alumni network in the department. There's a separate alumni house on the campus. To avail the facilities of alumni you have to pay 1000 at the very beginning of the 7th semester. I don't know if they are helpful because I had never been in an acquaintance with seniors.
Exam Structure
Each semester consists of three exams. Odd semester exams are held by the start of December and it ends in mid December. Odd semester sessionals are held in the last week of September and last week of November. Even semester exams are held from the second week of May and it ends by the end of the month. Even semester sessionals are held in the third week of March and the first week of May. Practicals are conducted before the semester exams. The best among the two is evaluated from the sessionals.
Admission
I was enrolled in the college through the Joint Admission Committee 2015. I went through three online counseling rounds and spot round counseling. Though I was selected in the very second round of counseling I had the option of upgrading my stream in the next rounds. But, my rank couldn't fit in the next round for upgradation. After the second round of counseling selection, I had to pay 40000 online and visit the university for verification of documents. After the verification process, I was enrolled in the institution.
Faculty
UIET has a very average quality staff for a university such as Panjab University in my opinion. In particular, if I brief then the respective teaching staff of Applied Thermodynamics, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, Theory of Machines and Automatic Controls are brilliant. These staffs have a sense of pragmatism towards involving student's interest in particular subjects. Apart from these most of them are below average. Workshop staff is helping friendly genuines.
