Gurudas College - a college to get admission

College is quite good in every aspect. Everything from faculty to senior to infrastructure is quite good. But, I think the college administration needs to be more strict and disciplined. Also, they must change the water filters regularly.

Merit List

Gurudas College follows Calcutta university's curriculum. The course curriculum is quite old in my view. They need to improvise it according to modern needs. Much more discussion sessions rather than bookish knowledge.

No our college does not provide any internship opportunities. However, we are enrolled in a program called 'earn while you learn. It gives you the opportunity to work on different college projects and they pay quite a good amount for a student.

Placement opportunities are quite good. Banking, insurance and BPO sector comes regularly for in campus interviews. TCS, ICICI Prudential comes to every gear for in campus interviews. The salary package is quite good for a fresher according to the industry.

For newly admitted students there is a fresher welcome. The annual cultural festival happens where renowned singers come. Also inter college quiz, dance, drama, debate, etc happens. The annual sports meet is also there.

The fee structure is feasible. It is a government aided college. You need to pay the annual admission fee and tuition fees which is a minimum. But for self financing courses like Journalism and Mass Com, Computer Science you need to pay the full fee decided by college.

I don't know of any loan or scholarship facilities provided by the college. However, for needy students college exempts the tuition fee. For this, you need to fill a form along with a signature for verification by the local municipality.

Extracurricular activities like debate, extempore, quiz, movie sessions, departmental programs like painting, seminar, etc happen regularly. Labs are well equipped. However, a bit of modernization is required for labs, I think. Annual sports meet occurs. Also, college has its own cricket and football team.

No hostel facility provided by the college. However, in and around college premise, options of paying guests, mess, separate room with fooding and lodging is available for both boys and girls. Also, options of the separate apartment are available.

The alumni network is not that strong. However, in the departmental teacher's day celebration many alumni's visit. Seniors are very helpful. Seniors are friends rather than the senior. Every month in the English Dept, seniors conduct the syllabus discussion session.

It follows Calcutta University's exam structure. It changed recently. Semester based structure introduced with 50% MCQ questions. In addition to it, the viva is there. The college takes internal exams too for its own assessment.

The college advertises through its website to apply for various posts. Then it publishes the merit list and calls for first counseling on a particular date. If one gets selected in the counseling he needs to complete necessary formalities and submits an amount to get admission.

Faculties are highly qualified and experienced. We have some of the best faculties in English, Chemistry, Physics, Zoology, and Botany. The faculties are not irregular. They took their respective classes enthusiastically.
