- Classrooms are air conditioned which makes it good to attend in hot summers.
- All classrooms have projecter as well as audio systems installed for a better learning experience.
- Hostel life is overall good. Everyone is friendly and helpfulm
Dislikes
- Very strict attendance rules. Teachers will be over your head even for a single missed class.
- Alot of power cuts in academic as well as hostel blocks which makes it unsufferable in summers.
- Curriculum is very old and the teaching methods are very poor.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is not upto the current standards of industry and lacks very behind. No one teaches about the job market and future opportunities or any present opportunities too. Anything beyond syllabus students have to learn on their own after college hours.
Placement Experience
Placements were not very good this academic year due to recession and poor job market. Last year the highest package was 44Lakhs per annum which was very attractive for students to take admission here. Faculty and students are both hoping the job market to get better. This year TCS hired more than two hundred students. Mostly mass recruiter companies recruit students from our college.
Fees and Financial Aid
Fees for the academic year 2023-2024 was ?132600 which included book bank and security deposit which can be refunded at the end of the course. Hostel fees was ?120000 for triple sharing hostel room. There are four seater rooms available too but at a comparatively lesser cost.
Campus Life
Campus life is very depressing as the whole day is spent attending classes and labs which are mandatory. Even if you miss a single lecture you will be marked absent for the whole day. After college the rest of the day is spent completing assignment. If you enroll in any club or society, you can only work for it after college hours or on weekends. Anything apart from academic activities is strictly prohibited during college hours.
Hostel Facilities
The water and food quality is very poor in the hostel. Canteens are not functional 24/7 but are available until 2AM. Almost all rooms are sharing and not properly maintained. Walls are dirty and need maintaining. No fests are arranged for those who stay far away from home. Only thing that keeps us going are the friends we make. Mess routine is same every semester. Not even Sundays have good food. Rented accommodation are available at high prices and poor services around. Hygiene is not taken care of and landlords are only behind your money.
Admission
The admission process is done under DR APJ ABDUL KALAM TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY Counselling process and is not very complicated. Above average scores will get you ABES ENGINEERING COLLEGE with hopefully Computer Science branch. I did not apply to any other colleges because my family insisted me to join this college because of good placement opportunities and safe environment inside the campus.
Faculty
Faculty is very strict and rigid about attendance and the curriculum they follow. It feels like they don't want you to learn beyond the syllabus. College timings and locations are very odd. Whole day is spent attending classes and labs and then completing assignment afterwards. Faculty does not like to talk about current industry situation neither allows students to take any leaves for their personal learnings. They provide their own notes and want you to strictly follow them. The experience is very school like.
