MS Ramaiah College of Arts science and commerce! Is it worth it?

The course offers varied subject papers every semester. We usually have 4 main or hard core subjects and a soft core paper that changes every semester. All the subjects that we study in this course is well suited for a student pursuing Biotechnology as it is a plethora of concepts merged into a single field. The paper correction in the master's is a little critical where they are very stingy in rewarding the marks. This is one thing I feel needs to be corrected. They should atleast let us know the criteria on how they are deducting the marks.

I belong to General category; hence there's no fee concession. I am paying 64,000 per year to the college (MS Ramaiah College of Arts science and commerce) under Bengaluru City University. They also charge a fee of 10,000 for every semester extra for maintainance. I am merit student and hence I got this seat in the college. Whereas my friends who have been admitted through management quota pay a sum of 3 lakh. There is no other concessions for the SC/ST category except during the registration fee of the University.

There are two canteens available at the campus of Ramaiah which is very convenient to students who are day scholars. Biotechnology has a biotitans club where students are welcome to take initiatives and conduct various fun activities .

I was not allowed to apply for colleges outside Karnataka or even Bengaluru. Hence I did not write many entrance exams. One exam I wrote for IBAB institute in Electronic City. However I failed to secure the marks required for eligibility. This made me apply to Bengaluru City University, Bangalore University and Nrupathunga University after I write my final semester exam of Bachelor's. All these accepted based on merit list. Since the only two colleges available in Bengaluru City University were MS Ramaiah and VV Puram college, I chose the former one based on its ratings and reputation. I was thankfully eligible for all the three because I stood first rank in all three merit lists that came out. Since I am a Brahmin general category, it was a worry to secure a seat.

I have opted for MSc biotechnology. There are 7 faculty professors who hold a PhD. (Few more than one) They are quite approachable and friendly compared to the other departments in the college. There's not a particular faculty I like the most or dislike since it is much basic than that. We have two internal exams in a semester along with a mock practical. And there's a final university theory and practical exams at the end of every semester. I have 4 semesters in this course. With an exception of no practical exam in the final 4th semester, where we have to submit a research project and hopefully it gets published as well. The curriculum aligns with the contemporary biotechnology fields in the real life.
