Course Curriculum Overview

4

The professors here are approachable and they provide study materials to students which are circulated through informal groups of students which help a lot in the examinations. The gaps between examination is less which is quite problematic as it does not avail Students to go through the whole syllabus in the short span of time.

Internships Opportunities

4

The Placement cell which is a college society is responsible for placement opportunities for students. They put up different offers with eligibility criteria on their notice board and students can apply from the link provided by them. These opportunities are frequent so students can easily apply.

Fees and Financial Aid

I am in 1st semester persuing B.com hons degree in St Xavier's college kolkata. The fee for sem 1 was around 45000 INR and i have found that the fees increase by some percentage yearly. Admission fees was 11000 INR. Students can get considerable relief on Caltholic quota to christian students and also their hostel charges are very less. Sc/St students can also avail some relief on their fees. Scholarship schemes are also offered covering full or partial fees according to the capability of the candidate like . Morning and evening batch have different fee structure. Morning is only for boys and evening is co-ed. Morning batch fees is 37000 per semester for the 1st year atleast.

Campus Life

3

Social life in this college can be considered good but only if you want it to be. Many events are held every now and then and people can participate if they want. Our college is known for Xavotsav which is an annual fest held in around febuary-march which is considered very grand and amazing event. Artists are called from outside to perform and all kinds of fun activities are performed. There are several societies run within the college in which entering is a bit hard. They only recruit overly confident people and do not give a chance to eligible but a bit less confident people. this is something that i dont like about these societies and i am not in any society as of now.

Admission

I did not apply to many colleges as i knew i would get into this prestigious college. It is known for it's brand value which would be beneficial in times of placement. I had a few backup colleges which i got into but i did not take because i got into Xavier's. The college accepts admission based on merit and the cutoff is always around 90% and above, although the last lists can go to 86-87 lowest percentages.

Faculty

4

The faculty as of the lastest information is 213 professors teaching 7106 students. The teachers are approachable and they are available one hour before the classes begin for doubt clearing and other queries of students. I personally like our business law professor Koushik Chatterjee and Principles of Management professor Romit Roy. They are experienced professors with wisdom and knowledge to share. As for examinations, we have CIAs( Continuous Internal Assesments) and end sem examinations. In one year there are 2 sem exams and 2 CIA exams, total of 4 exams per year. Students can simultaneously clear arrears of particular subjects in which they failed in the previous semester and give exams of the current semester.

Placement Experience:

Placements were not there earlier. But our batch was the first one to get placement at St Joseph's College Darjeeling. To be honest It is not a college you should target if you are looking for placement. The companies were too small . The roles are way to entry level . Highest placement was around 40000 per month but it was an inside sales role so many opt out. There is not official data about placement . My plan was to look for off campus jobs.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose the course the b.com because I want to become the CA but after completing the graduation my family condition was not very good so I quit my studies and searching for the job. My dream was after B.com then I complete M.com then CA but I couldn't do that. I'm pursuing because I'm interested in understanding how businesses work and want a solid foundation in commerce and finance. It opens up various career paths in accounting, finance, management, and more. Plus, it's a versatile degree that can lead to professional certifications like CA, CS, or MBA.
