Course Curriculum Overview

3

The course curriculum is relevant but there are areas that can be improved to enhance the creativity and innovation of students. There are some unnecessary topics that sometimes doesn't make any sense at all. Such topics have nothing to do with real world applications or further academic pursuits. The curriculum is vast. Sometimes it is hard to cover the whole syllabus before semester exams. Exams occur once in every 6 months usually but this can vary depending on any technical issues. There is no fixed difficulty level for examinations.

Internships Opportunities

5

For the subject I learnt, there weren't any internship options. But the advantage is that University colleges reputed institution and the mention of it can get you secure a position in a good company easily.

Fees and Financial Aid

Since this college is under Kerala state government, students are not required to pay any fees as such except for the admission fee which would be refunded once the course is over. You can only get into this college by merit so it is highly competitive. Besides it is one of the top colleges in Kerala. If you are able to secure an admission in the government hostel, you will not be required to pay any fee on monthly basis. The stay is completely free. But if you are looking for another stay option within the city then you will have to pay anywhere around 5000 to 10000 INR per month.

Campus Life

4

There are numerous extra curricular activities held in this college. It gives focus to cultural and political aspects as much as academic aspects. Students can earn great exposure through annual and technical festivals held in this college. There is a library inside the college but it is not that vast in terms of collection. But what is amazing is that there is a public library that is just 5 minutes away from the college which has extensive collection of books, journals etc. Many civil service and other competitive exam aspirants use this library. There are also numerous clubs that are a part of this college. There are students who have got selected to National teams under various category for sports meet.

Hostel Facilities

3

The government hostel is a bit congested. The meal option isn't that great as well. But the only merit is that it is affordable and sometimes completely free. I have stayed in a PG which was not that great but had an atmosphere suitable for students. We had non vegetarian and vegetarian meals along the week. My hostel was just 10 minutes away from my college.

Admission

I chose this college because this is one of the oldest and most reputable institutions in Kerala. I have applied to numerous other colleges but this was my first preference. I have also applied for colleges under Delhi University. To be exact, the colleges I applied for were Miranda College, Delhi and Hindu College, Delhi. I then dropped the idea of getting into Delhi University because of the distance. I have approximately 3 days of travel from Kerala to Delhi by train. Besides, the cost of living was also found to be on the higher end when I researched about Delhi. So, I decided to go for a college that was within Kerala but was also good in terms of providing quality education. I got selected to Hindu College, Delhi but then I chose University College Trivandrum over it. The admission procedure to University College Trivandrum is completely merit based. In order to secure an admission, you should score at least 85 percentage and above in your 12th standard board exam. Any other extra curricular activities will be an added advantage for the admission. I had participated in state level science fair competition and was also a member of NSS unit of my school which both served as an added advantage for me. You can also get an easy admission into this college if you have secured any position in state level or national level sports competition. There aren't any eligibility entrance examinations to get into this particular college. My overall admission experience was satisfactory. The whole process would take somewhere around 1 to 3 weeks. If you are someone who is looking forward to get into this college, make sure you score really well in 12th standard board examination while also being and active participant in extra curricular activities of the school. NSS, NCC, various State level competitions and exceptional skills in sports can easily get you a seat in this college. For an average student, the admission procedure can be a bit tricky and competitive.

Faculty

4

The faculty student ratio is around 1:15. The faculties are really friendly and helpful at most of the times. My teachers had really helped me with my final year project submission. They are approachable and empathetic. Parshuram sir who was the head of English department was my favourite teacher. Shiva ma'am of English department was also one of my favourite teachers because of her approachable personality. There are no such faculties that I hate. The exams are conducted semester wise. For graduation, there are 6 semesters in total.

Interview Experience

4

The admission is completely based on 12th standard board examination and the marks obtained in it. There are no eligibility tests to get into this college. Interviews are not conducted too. If you have a good score in your 12th standard board examination and is also someone who is great in extracurricular activities then you can easily get into this college.

The curriculum is suitable for the modern age of teaching, the way of education is well balanced with projects, assignments, presentations and also notes .we have reading assignments where the faculty members ask us to read an entire book and give our review on it.the exams are quiet moderate and in my opinion teachers should use more ai tools as a learning aid which will be more effective for the students

Placement Experience:

From the last semester pass out we a re eligible for the campus recruitment for job or placement. So many companies visit us for the interview or some checking like , hero honda , maruti suzuki etc. the main reason for it was a low amount of budget is that get from this placement maybe 15 thousand let month ect. Only the company can take the students for it so the percentage of the students who getting placement will change in every year. My plan was to get an admission in the central government University for doing master of degree in History. And try the best exam called upsc.

Course Curriculum Overview:

There are many aspects of the curriculum that infulenced my decision to choose BA English Literature in St. Berchmans College. Their syllabus is far more challenging and interesting than what other colleges and universities offer in Kerala. The examinations and overall assessment of projects and grades are top-tier and is comparatively difficult to obtain. The course steadily provides good quality information and knowledge on English Litearture and readies the student to be more than qualified for further studies in English Literature or any related courses. The areas where they can improve in the course curriculum is through availing more optional courses such as various other language courses/philosophy related courses to be selected. Their teaching environment can also be improved by improving basic infrastructure in the classrooms such as airflow etc. They conduct their exams freequently and on time. The examinations are challenging but necessary for overall improvement in students
