Course Curriculum Overview
I wanted to pursue a career in the world of psychology, but with the job option in there and keeping the money aspect in mind, I was not sure about it. But in home science I had a major in human development plus I had the option to choose psychology as my minor, which was the first reason to attract towards this degree. Apart from that home science includes textile as a major which opens a path in the world of textile industry and fashion designing, interior decore as a major opens up a path to the world of interior design and the last major is food science which is one of the most pursued major it opens up the path to food world including dietician, food scientist, food critic, chef and many more. Although you have a lot more choices provided these were my subjects I don't have much knowledge about them. Teaching methods may need a bit of improvement, but being a fresher I still have a habit of how teachers used to teach in a school like we are kids. Here they give us a lecture which I am having a bit of difficulty adapting to, but if doubts are asked they clear them very well just you have to voice out your problems.
Internships Opportunities
in bachelor of homescience, there are not much of jobs offered, but we are offered internship to work under many dietician, psychologist or any other profession we want to masters in with a stipen ranging from 5k to 20k.
Fees and Financial Aid
the yearly fee is rupees 28650 that is tuition fees for Indians. there is no extra fees which is taken, addmision form cost for 200 rupees, and extra 100 rupees is charged for every extra subject you are applying. if applying for hostel the fees is for about 30 thousand, where room is non ac. mess and laundary charges are exclusive. different different scholarships are given for eligable student falling under their guidelines.
Campus Life
There are a lot of festivals conducted throughout the year but one of the famous festivals is named'Ratnawali' which depicts the Haryanwi culture from its roots. It is held at the end of October or starting of November. Apart from that each department organizes its fest from time to time which honestly is fun to attend. 2. being a university with students from bachelors to PhD, the central library provides books for all of them. Library has the book for every course and you can easily find any book there present in your course material. 3. uni has a separate sports complex that has a lot of games such as table tennis, badminton(indoor and outdoor), volleyball, hockey, and many more. Uni also has a swimming pool along the sports complex. You can easily access it during the evening being a student here. About other extracurricular activities, there are different clubs and societies offered on campus. 4. there are a lot of social groups running here such as women empowerment groups, and antragging society. NSS and NCC are two government-led groups that are very famous and most opted on campus.
Admission
well as i was not sure about which degree to persue at start i applied to alot of colleges, basically every college you can think for in many different courses. later after exams and counselling i came to a conclusion to persue home science in bachelors. for home science i applied to lady erwin in du and here in kurukshetra university. As i didnt want to go for a private college these two were my only options for it. du addmision got late and i moved to kuk, although i did got selected in du but i didnt had the energy to move again, so i ended up staying in kuk. 2. Addmission process here in kuk is litreally very easy, you have to just fill a online form after boards exams which costs around 200 or 300, you can select multiple courses in one form, every extra course costs around 50 rupees. for bachelors in scince and arts the eligibility cretirea is based on merit list, but for other courses such engineering and law personal entrance exmas are conducted.
Faculty
the student-to-teacher ratio although it depends on the subject. but for my major subjects, it is 30 to 1, and for some minors, it goes from 30 to 1 to 45 to 1. The faculty here is very approachable, you can go to them anytime with your problems whether it be personal or academic. 2. Although I can't define any fav or worst faculty, if you have any problem with the teaching pattern of a teacher you can easily file a complaint against them and they will be replaced within a given amount of time. talking about the exams here, they are conducted according to the new NEP now, first mid sem then end sem. practicals and viva all are internals so they depend upon the head of the department. 3.Exams are not that difficult, if rated we can place them at medium level. home science is a vast course, with my options for subjects you can easily explore your choices for your career ahead. being in India bachelor's degree in any subject doesn't hold much significance now due to competition but a bachelor's in home science gives you a path to explore your choices if you're still confused about what to do with your career.
Night Life
university has a non teaching for students as well as a teaching club, which consists of a common gym open and close and different activities are keep going in there which you can be a part of. although every department has its own library but it closes around 5 pm. but for evening and late night study session hostel has its own study rooms and central library is open 24/7. central library in closed on national holidays. hostel has curfew depending on summer and winter session which is around 10 pm. colleges are closed around 5 to 6 pm, but other public places such as parks and clubs are open till late at night. There are not alot of happening places here but every department has its own canteen and café. plus there is in campus market with variety of shops and cafes. outside university it is easy to find places to hangout with friends. university is absolutely safe to roam at night and outside the campus it was advised to not leave the campus for own safety concerns.
