Remarks
Just as every college has its own pros and cons, this college also has its own. According to my viewpoint, the placement department needs to take important steps in getting more companies with satisfactory packages for the students. The education system also needs to improve a bit with a bit more structure and recruitment of qualified teachers should be done on a regular basis. The management should be strong enough to improve the research-oriented mindset of students by bringing reputed lecturers to the college and allowing the students to pursue important projects and make necessary arrangements for that.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is well designed with a detailed elaborate study of various aspects of biochemistry in the first year. from the next year onwards, the curriculum shifts towards research-oriented topics and the last sem deal exclusively with a project. Exams are conducted in regular intervals and three internals are conducted in a semester along with an end semester exam with the practical examination. The exam evaluation is conducted in a strict manner and the question patterns are of a good standard. The time intervals between the internals are quite adequate enough for the students to prepare. There is not much scope for research unless the student is self-motivated and he/she approaches the hod regarding that.
Placement Experience
The placement in life sciences is quite average and that is common in each and every university. In our university, the placement is well below average with most of the companies not of our domain like Concentrix which had come for a voice process hiring. Other companies which visited include forte research, og healthcare, and indigene. These companies were not involved in hiring the multiple numbers of students but only a handful and most remained unplaced. Several other companies were there which wasn't related to our field but we were told to attend e.g sales and marketing for which most weren't interested. And as is the case, the scope for internships aren't satisfactory and the student needs to take initiative and apply from his/her own if he wishes to avail any. Not many scopes for internships are available from the college and most are paid from the student's pocket.
College Events
There are various cultural and sports events organized by the college. The biggest event organized is the revotsava, which is organized in the month of March for a period of 2-3 days with the performance of a celebrity too in the last day. This year, Hariharan had visited and it becomes an awesome evening indeed by the sheer presence of such stars. Apart from this, various cultural and literary events take place in revotsava with different departments and students coming together and showcasing their talent. Apart from these, science exhibition, tech fair and Reva open day are organized where Reva remains open for outsider students to come and visit the college. The biochemistry department organizes a fest called 'bioquimica' every year which features various literary events and games and the biotechnology department organizes 'Ankur' fest which is similar to bioquimica. Various festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi, Saraswati puja are organized in the college in the respective departments. Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated by the entire college in the open theatre.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The course I studied is MSc biochemistry. The fees structure per year amounts to rs 70,000 which is the tuition fees for two semesters and payable in installments. This amount does not cover workshop and other study-related expenses and registration fees for various other college events, where the college might send to attend a program. These need to be beared by the student. The exam fee of Rs 1200 is charged separately for each semester end exam irrespective of the number of subjects a student has in each semester
Fees and Financial Aid
No, I have not availed for any scholarship or education loan during my study in this college and I do not have much idea about it as in general no one avails it more often. However, there is a waiver in tuition fees for the next year if a student has topped in the previous year
Campus Life
The best part of Reva is its campus and it is indeed memorable for each and every student who has studied in Reva. The campus is lush green with various trees planted in and around with a very big football ground and basketball and cricket grounds nearby. There are various spots in the campus for food and there is also a food court for foodies which has various diverse food items in the form of Chinese and Indian dishes. The gender ratio is well maintained and the admission process does not take into account the caste creed and religion and gender, but only talent and academics plays the sole important role. The diversity is worth mentioning with students from each and every corner of India studying in this beautiful university. The students are not only restricted to India but also from various other neighboring countries such as Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Africa Kenya, all coming together to get the feel of the campus and education facilities of Reva. Various co curricular and extracurricular events are organized in the college to allow the students some break from the busy academic schedule and classes. This allows the students to showcase their talent and play a role in replenishing it for the future.
Alumni/Alumna
The senior students of our department were by far the best we had ever come across. They interacted with us like friends and were indeed very friendly and approachable enough with whom we could discuss anything and everything. They had played an important role in helping us choose our career further and were instrumental enough in suggesting us the companies and job prospects after MSc. They had also helped us with our initial days in college. They were very helpful and surely the best one could get.
Admission
My admission story is indeed a bit interesting. I had aspirations of studying masters in Bangalore so I had a tough time going through the colleges and universities as Bangalore is an abode of great colleges and universities. Upon a random search, I got to know of reva university. As I had a determination that I will extend my study in masters of biochemistry itself, so there was no chance of a second thought of choosing a course. The admission process was simple enough with not much of a hustle. We had to pay a seat booking fee of rs10,000. Upon reaching college, we needed to complete the formalities. There was neither any interview nor any entrance.
Faculty
The faculty of the college are quite supportive and qualified enough not only based on their subject knowledge but also in instilling self-belief and confidence in real-life aspects and play a big role in motivating the students. Some of the teachers are quite experienced enough with a Ph.D. degree and many have a teaching experience of above 3-4 years after MSc degree. The teaching is in a simple and organized manner with regular revision classes. They also finish the course before the exams so that the students can prepare well. The evaluation is done by them itself in a strict and impartial manner with no bias. Overall the faculty is fine enough and their way of teaching is good
