- Infrastructure is not upto the mark as compared to other engineering college but the laboratory are well maintained.
Course Curriculum Overview
Since this course offers an in-depth understanding of fundamental subjects like thermodynamics, mass and heat transfer, reaction engineering, and fluid mechanics, which are the backbone of chemical engineering ,also this institute is known for its focus on research and development, encouraging students to participate in innovative projects related to green energy, process optimization, and sustainable engineering ,has influenced my decision to choose this course. The course curriculum for chemical engineering is quite relevant as it align with the fundamentals of chemical engineering, such as thermodynamics, reaction engineering, process control, and transport phenomena, which is important for both academic and industrial applications and the well equipped and furnished laboratory gives the opportunity to experience book knowledge in the form of practical knowledge. Although the curriculum and the teaching methods is quite good but there is always the scope of improvement so emerging technologies like artificial intelligence (AI),Machine learning (ML) should be incorporated in the course curriculum. Use of simulation software and virtual labs like (ASPEN, MATLAB) should be incorporated into the teaching methods and the frequency of industrial trips should be increased. The exam are conducted within a span of two or more months since two Mid semester test and one end sem are conducted. The frequency and timing of the exam is fine and need not to be changed and the level of difficulty of exam is quite moderate.
Internships Opportunities
Internships opportunities are or from 3rd year itself but many students starts doing internship from 2nd year only by searching for the companies on their own.varior company visits the department for internships for example last year Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) offered the role of Process Intern, focusing on refinery operations and process optimization with an Stipend of 20K per month.similarly Jublient ingrevia , Honeywell,IOCL,BPCl visits the department for the role of project intern, chemical operation intern with a stipend of around 20 to 30 K per month. In Reliance Industries a Project was given to one of my seniors to Optimize the distillation column for crude oil separation and it's outcome comes out to be enhancing in separation efficiency by 5%, reducing energy costs.
Placement Experience
The placement is quite good here as the ROI rate is quite high .In 2023 , around 98.5% students of chemical branch get placed . Students becam eligible for campus plan in their final year that is from 7th semester. Numbers of company from the chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, and consultancy sectors visits the campus.Major recduiters are Reliance Industries Limited , Adani Group , Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), HPCL-Mittal Energy Limited (HMEL) , Zydus Cadila , L&T,Infosys (for IT-related roles), Accenture ,Evalueserve , Jubilant ingrevia,Honeywell and many more. Number of offers made varies each year, typically between 50–70% of eligible students receive offers, depending on market trends and academic performance. Highest package is of around 12 lakhs per annum and average package is of 6-7 lakhs per annum .Profiles offered include the role of Chemical Engineer, Process Engineer, Project Engineer, R&D Specialist, roles in IT consulting firms etc. After getting the degree my plans to continue my job or can think of preparing for government jobs .
Fees and Financial Aid
Yearly fee of Dr.SS Bhatnagar University institute of chemical engineering and technology , Panjab University, Chandigarh vary according to the branches. For B.E.(chemical engineering) and B.E.( food technology)yearly fees is around 30K along with society fees of 7.5K which is one time subscription.for Integrated B.E.(chemical)-MBA yearly fees is around 1 lakh 20 thousand along with society fees of around 9K which is one time subscription. In addition to this a few of around 3500 is to be paid as Examination fees per semester. The institute offers number of merit as well as merit-cum-means scholarship includes Thakur Datta sharma Dharmarth trust scholarship which provides 20 to 75% scholarship.many other scholarship are Yamuna Devi tejasigiri scholarship.some scholarship mainly focused single parents and income based are also provided.
Campus Life
Life at Dr.SSBUICET is quite vibrant ,from balancing academics to extracurricular activities I have learnt so many this thing being in the college from social growth to personal development. The annual fest of department is Cynide which held in February end .The annual cultural fest of Panjab University is goonj which is usually held in march and the technical Fest Udaan held in February , provides a platform for students to showcase their technical and innovative skills through competitions, workshops, and paper presentations. Department is having its own library along with the Library of Panjab University A.C Joshi library which is one of the best Libra of north india. It contains extensive collection of textbooks, reference books, and research journal etc . The library remains open from morning to late evening, with quiet study zones and group discussion areas.Online access to e-books and journals through the Panjab University network make it easy for the students to study anytime. Classrooms are well furnished and equipped with smartboards, projectors, and Wi-Fi connectivity to facilitate interactive learning .well equipped laboratory are also present in the department. Holistic development of students is ensured in the department by giving access to Panjab University’s sports complex, which includes fields for cricket, football, and hockey, as well as courts for tennis, badminton, and basketball along with Gymnasium hall and indoor games like table tennis and chess .regular workshops, debates etc are conducted.NCC and NSS programs allow students to contribute to community service and nation-building.There are various clubs in the department run by the students like IICHe (Indian Institute of Chemical Engineering), IPI (Indian Plastic Institute), oratory club, the monologuing marauders, drama club RIT, R&D (Research and Development) club, Danceclub (folk regiment, D'CODE), Singing club Reverie and a social work society Enactus which is an international NPO.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel facilities is quite nice. There are 10 hostels for girls and 10 for boys along with one international hostel. Since UICET is the part of Panjab University, we get the hostel facility of Panjab University but only if you are not from the tricity that is Panchkula, Chandigarh, Mohali. The hostels are provided on the basis of JEE Main score so very few people get the accommodation in the first year as there are very few vacant seats in the hostels. Since you are living with the students of other departments of Panjab University, you get an opportunity to interact with different people and know about their culture. Although the mess food is not up to the mark, you can order anything from the canteen. There are different committees in Hostel for food, cleaning and hygiene, decoration, etc. You can have a great opportunity to show your leadership skills by being a part of the committee. The hostel organises regular recreational activities on different occasions. The hostel infrastructure is average but it's fine according to the fee. The hostels are 24x7 open and there are no restrictions on the exit and entry. Boys are not allowed in the girls’ hostel and vice versa. The hostel fees are nominal with around 8K -9K per semester. The mess and canteen fees are on a monthly basis of what you have eaten. Single sharing rooms are available for Ph.D scholars only. Double and triple sharing is also there. PG facilities are also available near to the institute, but it is expensive as compared to hostels.
Admission
Since the institute is in Chandigarh which is a great place to live and enjoy life and the other college i apply to, are in Delhi which is toxic place to live , due to its pollution. This is one of the region why I choose this college and the overall fees is comparativly low as compared to other college which I apply to .The research and development opportunities is quite good here .I have applied for jac Delhi counselling and was getting Biotechnology from Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women (IGDTUW) But I don't want Biotechnology sice my interest lies in chemical engineering so this was the best option out of all the options which I was having. Yes I did get rejection from other college which I had applied to, I could not make it to Delhi technical institute (DTU) because of my low score in Jee mains . To get admission in Dr SSBUICET, panjab University Chandigarh you have to apply for Jac Chandigarh counselling after which apply for this college. The criteria for jac Chandigarh counselling is jee mains score .you don't have to be qualified in jee advanced to get admission in this college . The cuttoffs for different brances vary according to the category, for general candidate the cuttoffs of B.E(chemical) is around 1.5 lakhs to 2 lakhs for B.E.(Chemical+MBA) is around 5 lakhs and for B.E (food technology) is around 6 lakhs .
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio is quite good. Faculty members include permanent faculty, guest faculty and research scholars. They are well qualified and knowledgeable and Most of them are Phds having a number of research paper in under their names , some of them falls in the category of world's 2% scientist. Faculty members are quite approachable and takes our doubts seriously but some are very strict that you can't even think of misbehaving with them. I can't pinpoint to one faculty who i like the most because all are very good .But I have to choose one then it would be the chairperson of the department Dr.Anupma Sharma Ma'am she is very knowledgeable and listens to the the problemsbl of Students with utmost seriousness and provides students to put forth their views. There are a very few teacher who are very strict and do not listen to the students they think what they think are right they are not ready to listen students point of view. There in total three exams are conducted per semester.Mid semester-I&II and end semester Mid semesters are of 25 marks and best out of two are considered for final result. The end semesters are of 50 marks and the remaining 25 marks are of presentation, assignment, viva and class tests .The Exams are quite moderate of you have studied but you haven't studied then everything will be difficult for you . Around 20 %students failed in one or more subject ,they can give the exam of that subject in next semester But if the students fails in all the subjects then he have to reappear for that year .The final result is according to CGPA method. The course curriculum is quite relevant having subject of core chemical engineering like Mass Transfer, Thermodynamis, Fluid flow ,Heat flow etc along with value added course like Environment studies, Universal Human values , Start-up and funding etc .All of them collectively make the students industry ready.
Night Life
My favourite hangout spots includes Gandhi bhawan, Rose garden, botanical garden ,stu -C sector -15 market and night food Street .Late night activities includes roaming around campus with your friends, visiting night food Street and eat Maggie from there .students unwind themselves after a dayof classes by partying with the friends. These experience shape our college life in a good way by creating memories. college life is the best phase of life so it is important to enjoy the college life along with studies. The A.C.
