Dislikes
- The campus of Gauhati University is often neglected and I beleive the campus has much more potential than how it is now.
- The students of integrated courses are often neglected and are not included in many important events such as elections.
- It often publishes exam schedule late which creates tension among students near exam days.
Course Curriculum Overview
The reason why I choosed this course in Gauhati University is because the faculty members of the Department of Sociology really catched my interest. They were very sweet from the day of admission up until now. Also the teachers teaches us in a way which not only helps us to ace our exams but also to use those knowledge in our everyday lives.
Fees and Financial Aid
Gauhati University doesn't provide normal bachelors degree for undergraduate students. Instead, it provides Integrated courses for undergraduate students. The fee structure for integrated courses range from Rs 14,500-16,000 per semester which comes to a total of Rs 29,000-32,000 per year. My course in particular is of Rs 14,500 per semester and Rs 32,000 per year. There are a wide range of scholarships available for students. I, in particular, have applied for the Ishan Uday Scholarship which offers Rs 80,000 per year.
Campus Life
The library of Gauhati University or you can say Krishna Kanta Handique Library is one of the best libraries in India. It provides you with almost all the books that we need for our degree. The facilities and technological provisions within the classrooms of Gauhati University is also very useful and efficient. There are many clubs for students of Gauhati University like writing clique, dance club, singing club, drama, etc.
Admission
I have applied for the course of Sociology in Darrang College, Cotton University and Gauhati University. I got admission in Darrang College in the first merit list itself. Though the environment of Darrang College was also very peaceful and ideal for students, I didn't like how the class size there was so large in number. I personally feel like the smaller the class size, the more we can learn effectively. I couldn't get admission into Cotton College because of its high cut-off. But after visiting both Cotton University and Gauhati University, I prefer Gauhati University because of its approachable faculty members and peaceful environment.
Faculty
The faculty members of Gauhati University are mostly approachable. Students can share a good relationship with them, which facilitates the learning process. I am mostly familiar to the Department of Sociology and all of the faculty members of this department are very sweet and approachable.
Night Life
The locality of Gauhati University is safe for students to even roam about at night. If we go for a walk in the campus during night-time, we can see students cycling, Jogging, walking, etc. Famous hangout places or you can say eateries in Gauhati University are Meghali (around 50 years old), GU Arts Canteen, Sharma Food Court, etc
Other Applied Colleges
Cotton University | Bachelor of Arts [BA] {Hons.} (Sociology)
I visited both the campuses, but the campus of Gauhati University seemed more peaceful and ideal for education.
