GEC Surat Review

The course is mostly technical, therefore it gives more focus only on the technical subjects and labs is one of my favourite part as it focuses on practical knowledge of individual also GEC Surat provide us industrial visists yearly. There is a good combo of lectures and labs to develop an engineer in aspects of technical knoledge and as well as practical knowledge because mostly each and everyday we have a labs and lectuers. The frequency of exams is kinda 4 per year and in external exams university provide us a good amount of reading vacation after the completion of term but it depends on the semester itself because it keeps changing. Other than this the internal exams are real challenge beacuse principle announces mid-exams surprisingly so students have to be prepapred for that.

The internships provided byt the college is mostly unpaid and paid only for few companies which hires very few students but if a students has a very good portfolio and made projects on robotics and VLSI then there are very high chances of him/her grabbing the best interships here. Companies like Goldi solar and rayzone solar and L&T comes here for ECE students.

Placements in GEC Surat are very good for core branches specially Electrical engineering department as the principle is alumini of IIT Bombay in Electrical engineering he has some contacts in companies which comes during placements in my college. Companies like WAREE, GOLDI solar and DGVCL are the most high recruiting companies here. They take students on the average package of 5-6 LPA. The highest package got from GEC Surat was 12 LPA in my department of ECE and the average package was 4-5 LPA. So , overall there is no good placements for ECE department till now, but GEC Surat provides the best placements in ECE department after SVNIT in Surat. My plans after degree is to prepar for GATE exams to unlock more opportunities as can't rely on only placements in this third tier college.

The fees structure of Dr. S&SS Ghandhy Government Engineering college is arround 2000Rs to 3000Rs per year according semester. As it's a government college all the government facilities are given as per goevrnment rules in colleges. For SC/ST category students and female students it's almost free, there is no education fees for them. Therefore there no such financial burden on students. Other scholarships and financial aids available are MYSY scholarships and those students who gets aa free seat here on the basis of his/her merit result if he/she has choosen yes in TFSW while taking admission.

The infrastructure of the campus is really good as we get the greenary region within the campus which is located in the middle of the Surat city. The calsses and labs are also huge enough to accomodate students for study. Also the library of GEC Surat is in good condition with lots of books with cnateen and affordable stationary. The club activities are held here but there is lack in sprts euipment but grounds are near the college where other events are held during Sports festival. The tech fest and cultural fest of GEC Surat are the best things here as many students from other colleges come here to particapate in various games and activities and we manage them all which helps in developing our management skills and we also enjoy the festivals here.

Hostel facilities of GEC Surat are good as there is minimal charges of arround 2000Rs per year and it gives a room of 3 students with their beds, table, chairs and lockers for each students and there are general bathrooms and washrooms are also available. The food is also good in cafeteria at minimal rate of 70Rs per thali and healthy. Other options are also available outside of campus like pizza, restaurents and other fast foods.

I choose GEC Surat because I got admission here according to my rank in merit list of GUJCET. I wanted to take admissoin in more higher colleges like LD, MSU and DDU but can't get there because of my rank. I also get a free seat from Parul university in AI-CSE but the hostel fees were too high and it was very far away from my home. As the GEC Surat is much closer and affordable I choose it over other colleges. The admission process here is simillar to every other government colleges of Gujarat which is on the basis of merit list of GUJCET and JEE. I got here by GUJCET through ACPC's admission process. I paid only 2000 token fees for this college and after that my admission here was confirmed. Therefore it was quite affordable and quick to get here.

The faculty to students ratio is quite good here. As every class is devided into 3 batches for labs and submission and each batch is provided with a faculty for them. So, in a class almost there are 80 students and every batch consist of arround 20 students and a faculty per each. The relationship between students and teachers is professional mostly teachers are strict and focus on maintaining desciplined and skilled engineers. There are total two exams held every semester in GEC Surat. First is the mid-semester exams which consists of 30 marks and held in the mid time of the semester in which 60% of attendace criteria is necessary to give exam. Second is the end-semester exam taken by GTU after the term end and it requires 75% attendance but arround 5-10% of students fails in every semester to meet this criteria.

The night life here is also because of available malls and gardens in near. The college timing is 10:30 to 5:30 but as I stay in Hostel we play badmintton and basket ball here after the college hours and many restaurents and fast food outlets are also avalable very near to college. The most famous hangout places here are Ajay's fastfood outlets and RR mall with other street foods. The locality here is also very peaceful and safe to study.
