Remarks
Politics is on the dirty side. But from academic point of view, this college is one of the best in Kolkata. Students often get carried away by the glamour and euphoric life outside the campus, but if one concentrates enough on his studies, he or she will succeed with flying colours.
Course Curriculum Overview
Calcutta University is very much orthodox in its exam structure. A very well known aspect is that no matter how much you study, you do not get the marks you deserve. However, that is apparently true. The overall marks that student get is low compared to different universities across the country. Furthermore, where most of the universities conduct exam on semester basis, there is still one yearly exam only.
Placement Experience
No, as it is not an engineering college or it doesn't deal with professional courses, there is no direct placement. However, there are Post Graduation courses under Calcutta University for a few courses, but none of them provide stipend to the students.
College Events
Freshers is one of the very first events a student will experience. The yearly annual programme is also celebrated. Many renowned celebrities come for that event. But during student election time, the college is decorated at its fullest.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Being a government college, the fee structure is very much student friendly. Apart from the self financed courses, like Microbiology, students have to pay below ?5000 for a year. In similar private colleges in the city, the course fee ranges above ?30,000/year.
Fees and Financial Aid
No, I haven't availed. But meritorious students can always avail those by applying to the college authority. Still I really gave no idea about this aspect. There ate many government schemes which the students can avail as well.
Campus Life
Very good. Asutosh College not only produces good students, but excellent sports person, singers, actors as well. Annual sports day is celebrated every year and students themselves organise cricket and football tournaments.
Alumni/Alumna
Very good. Seniors always guide you for a better future. They help you with your studies, how you must behave in the college, help them with their issues. The best part about them is that, the the campus is completely ragging free.
Admission
After the publication of 10+2 exams, students have to apply for the course of their want. A merit list will be generated on the basis of the marks obtained in 10+2. Selected candidates will be called to take admission.
Faculty
Very good. They are well educated and student friendly. Undoubtedly, Asutosh College has one of the best faculties in Kolkata. Especially, the Arts department is the best in the city. They prepare you well for the University exams.
